Mark Twain once said, "There are two types of speakers: those who get nervous and those who are liars." From Abraham Lincoln and Mahatma Gandhi to Samuel L. Jackson and Julia Roberts, even world leaders and renowned celebrities have had to overcome their fear of public speaking before achieving success.

For more than 100 years, Toastmasters International, the world's leading organization devoted to communication and leadership skills development, has offered a casual club setting for people to face their fear and practice speaking in front of a small and supportive audience.

Build your confidence with us! This week a young woman, Camille Ferland, is going to share how the Toastmasters program has helped her overcome fear and succeed in business.

Every language or dialect has it's own magic. Avast! Try your hand at talking like a Pirate, me hearties! Acting like a pirate starts with confidence...stand with a wide stance, chest out, and shoulders back. Arr...be a great Pirate Toastmaster using broad, expansive movements and express yourself with your hands and arms!

You'll earn b***y from our Buffer (Grammarian) for using the lingo rather than making you walk the plank for incorrect English! Our Bosun (SAA) will award doubloons for dressing the part as well, you landlubbers!

In today’s economy, communication is no longer a soft skill—it’s a revenue-driving skill. You can be brilliant, technically advanced, and highly experienced… but if you can’t clearly articulate ideas, influence decisions, or inspire action, your growth will stall.

That’s where Toastmasters International becomes a force multiplier. Toastmasters isn’t just about public speaking—it’s about learning how to think, structure, and deliver ideas with clarity and confidence. And for certain careers, that capability directly translates into higher income, faster promotions, and greater influence.

Here are the top 10 professions that benefit most from Toastmasters—and why:
