Formerly Townsend Smith Foundation | Bringing compassionate end-of-life care closer to home in North Halton.

We envision a residential hospice facility of approximately 10,000 square feet located in the Milton and Halton Hills area. It will have 10 private, home-like rooms with private baths for terminally ill patients as well as comfortable common spaces for family and friends, and office space for hospice support staff. Our residential hospice will offer specialized care for people who are unable to remain at home but do not require the acute care of a hospital during their last days. This home away from home will offer patients and their families a peaceful haven surrounded by dedicated care-giving team members working to make this transition as comfortable and dignified as possible.

We are very excited to share that our Halton Harvests for Hospice campaign raised $12,000!

As Milton and Halton Hills prepare to welcome new leadership, our team at North Halton Hospice would like to take a moment to express our deepest gratitude to Mayor Gordon Krantz and Mayor Ann Lawlor for their years of dedicated service to our communities.

Through years of community involvement and leadership, both mayors have helped shape the towns that so many of us are proud to call home.

We have been especially fortunate to experience their encouragement and unwavering support for our mission to bring residential hospice care closer to home. Their belief in our vision has been invaluable as we continue working toward making North Halton’s first residential hospice a reality.

Thank you, Mayor Krantz and Mayor Lawlor, for the years you have dedicated to serving your communities and for the care you have shown to the people in Milton and Halton Hills.

We would also like to congratulate Mayor-elect George Minakakis of Milton, Mayor-elect Jason Brass of Halton Hills, and the incoming Councils. We look forward to building meaningful relationships and working together!

Yesterday our team attended the Business After Hours Networking and Expo Show hosted by the Halton Hills Chamber of Commerce in honour of small business week. Thank you to the Halton Hills Chamber of Commerce team for a lovely evening! 😊

We had a great time meeting other members in the community and learning about all the incredible small business owners here in Halton Hills.

On Tuesday, October 13th, we gathered for the 8th annual Candlelight Vigil at Hillcrest United Church to honour and remember those who are no longer with us 🕯️🕊️

A big thank you to Kristina Tesser Derksen for guiding us through the evening, to Justin for sharing his beautiful piano playing and vocals, and to Liz Leslie and Angie Dairou for sharing their personal stories and experiences with hospice care.

We are also grateful to everyone that shared their lovely reflections, and to the awareness committee for organizing this event.

Thank you to everyone that joined us and created a space where grief and love can coexist.

Join us today, Tuesday, October 13th at 6:30 PM for our 8th annual Candlelight Vigil.

Every year, our community gathers for an evening of music and shared experience, memories of those who have gone before us, and reflections on the love and compassion in our lives.

This is a free event; all are welcome to attend. Meet us at Hillcrest Church, 8958 Trafalgar Road, Halton Hills.

The community-led Awesome Awareness Committee will meet before the ceremony, at 5 PM, in the North Halton Hospice Community Room. If you’re interested in learning more about ongoing activities as we advocate for residential palliative care in North Halton please feel free to join them.

Today, on World Hospice and Palliative Care Day, we join communities around the world in recognizing the importance of compassionate and accessible hospice and palliative care.

This year’s theme, “Pain Management: An Essential Part of Palliative Care,” shines a light on a fundamental aspect of quality care: the relief of pain and suffering.

Pain is not always physical. For individuals facing serious or life-limiting illnesses, suffering can extend beyond physical symptoms to include emotional distress, social isolation, and spiritual concerns. This is known as total pain, and it reminds us that effective pain management requires a holistic approach that considers the needs of the whole person.

Yet, access to appropriate pain management and palliative care remains unequal.

At North Halton Hospice, we believe that compassionate end-of-life care should be accessible to everyone in our community. Our vision of bringing residential hospice care closer to home is rooted in providing comfort, dignity, and meaningful support to individuals and families throughout their end-of-life journeys.

As we mark this important day, we reaffirm our commitment to building a future where individuals and families in North Halton can access the care they deserve, close to the people and places they call home.

Thank you to our community, volunteer, supporters, donors and everyone that has believed in our mission and continues to support us. Let’s build this hospice! 💚
