Huronia Community Foundation is named after the Huron Wendat peoples. The Huron and other preceding cultures built community in this region going back approximately 15,000 years. It is this deep heritage of community caring, sharing and resiliency that the Huronia Community Foundation continues in our work today. Since 2000, Huronia Community Foundation (HCF) has been a member of the Community Fou

ndations of Canada, which provides more than 90% of Canadian communities access to a community foundation. Our network stewards combined assets of more than $6.3 billion and have put hundreds of millions back into communities. We provide financial support to our communities forever by developing giving strategies based on endowment funds including donor-advised funds, scholarships, field-of-interest funds and more. All of which are funded through donations from individuals, families, businesses and sometimes government grants. (An endowed fund or endowment is a permanent source of funds that is invested for long-term growth. Each year, some of the fund’s earnings are disbursed to fulfill the fund’s purpose; as the invested balance grows, more is available for distribution over time.) Today with over 80 unique individual funds, established by local charities and community-minded philanthropists, HCF has stewarded more than $4 million in grants and scholarships to individuals and organizations throughout the communities of Southern Georgian Bay. Contact us today to find out how you can contribute, honour someone special or create a charitable legacy for your family or business.

DOUBLE YOUR IMPACT. STRENGTHEN OUR REGION

The Heart of Georgian Bay Community Forward Fund is helping organizations across North Simcoe - 18 local charities received grants in 2026 supporting food security, health, mental health and vital community social services, children and youth, seniors, arts, culture and environmental leadership.

Thanks to the generosity of Marc Wayne, Julie Coleman and family, your donation will be matched until the fund reaches $250,000 to give out in 2027, doubling the impact of your gift.

“The 'Heart' fund was established to make a profound impact on the Georgian Bay Community, where our family spends considerable time," says Marc. "After 3 years of providing funding and learning about these local charities, we have not only seen the impact but more importantly we understand more needs to be done. So why not get the word out and see if we can grow the fund - let’s challenge the wider community, match them, and see. Hopefully good things happen!"

The Huronia Community Foundation celebrates the life and legacy of Reinhart Weber and all he did for our community as a visionary philanthropist and respected leader. We extend our sincere condolences to his family and friends, and share our thanks for his past support of HCF.

Our region has lost someone who deeply believed in investing in the people, organizations, and resources that contribute to our collective well-being. Reinhart gave generously of his time, wisdom, and guidance. Laurene Hilderley, President of the Huronia Community Foundation, along with many HCF board members, staff and volunteers throughout its 25-year history, were involved with organizations and charities that benefited from his deep care and commitment to helping others.

His contributions help shape the fabric of our community and his legacy will live on through the countless lives his generousity will continue to touch for years to come.

What a fantastic evening celebrating the 75th Anniversary of the Rotary Club of Midland at the Midland Cultural Centre last night!

Huronia Community Foundation President Laurene Hilderley and Executive Director Scott Warnock were honoured to join so many inspiring local organizations that have benefited from Rotary’s decades of generosity, leadership, and community service. Millions of dollars have been reinvested back into our region thanks to their incredible fundraising efforts.

Laurene and Scott also had the opportunity to personally thank Town of Midland Council for the generous $5,000 Community Grant from the upcoming Mayor’s Charity Golf Tournament on May 29 at Brooklea Golf & Country Club. ⛳ This support will help HCF continue growing its impact for years to come.

Congratulations again to Rotary on 75 amazing years of service and thank you to Rotary, the Town of Midland and everyone who supports their fundraising efforts for the contributions you make to support our community's well-being 💙

A big thank you to the Community Foundation for their support of the Georgian Bay Cancer Support Centre

Through the Heart of Georgian Bay Community Impact Fund, the GBCSC has received a multi-year grant of $11,000 in support of our Camp Hope initiative. These funds will help us continue to grow and deliver this important program for families impacted by cancer in our community.

Camp Hope brings families together for connection, shared experiences, and meaningful moments, while giving kids the chance to simply be kids and enjoy time away in a supportive environment. Support like this helps make programs like Camp Hope possible, and it means a lot to the families we serve.

Celebrating Community Partnerships in Action

We’re so grateful to LabX Media Group for their ongoing support of Scientists in School and a commitment to youth, education and many other local causes.

Students at Mundy’s Bay Public School in Midland recently took part and Jamie Burns (VP HR & Operations, LabX), Terry Hudson (Scientists in School), and Scott Warnock and Laurene Hilderley (Huronia Community Foundation) were on hand to see the program in action.

About Scientists in School:
• Hands-on learning that engages students and sparks curiosity
• Delivers impactful programs in local classrooms

Through a long-standing partnership with Huronia Community Foundation, LabX supports North Simcoe charities - we are forever grateful for this generosity.

Easter and the traditions of this first spring long weekend bring alive the universal messages of renewal, hope, and celebration. As spring unfolds and the days grow longer, this season reminds us that new beginnings are within reach and that brighter days lie ahead.

At Huronia Community Foundation this spirit comes to life in the work we do every day. With our recent 25th anniversary, we’re proud of the meaningful impact HCF has made supporting local charities and strengthening our community.

This season, our team is out celebrating the impact of the Heart of Georgian Bay Community Forward Fund with recent visits to the Midland Public Library and Askennonia Senior Centre - seeing firsthand how community support creates lasting change.

With the hope and joy Easter brings for many, and the growth and possibility of spring, we'd love for you to learn more about HCF. Our 2025 Annual Report celebrating the 25th anniversary is a great start.
