Another successful day with the Green Thumb Brigade!

As part of Stewardship Saturdays, our volunteers have been hard at work caring for the wildflower gardens, and all that effort is showing. The gardens are full of beautiful blooms right now, bringing colour, life, and pollinator activity to the space.

Thank you to all of the volunteers for sweating it out this morning and helping us bring this project back to life!

Interested in donating supplies or getting your hands dirty with our volunteer team? Stewardship Saturdays happen on a drop-in basis every Saturday at 10 AM. Everyone is welcome.

Meet Eric Walter, Executive Director!

If you’ve spent any time around Eric, you’ve probably noticed his sense of humour, steady enthusiasm, and genuine love for this place.

Whether he’s sharing a laugh with visitors, exploring the trails with his family, or talking about the future of Wye Marsh, Eric brings energy, creativity, and a deep appreciation for the role nature plays in our community.

As a leader, Eric encourages fresh perspectives and creates space for people to bring their own ideas forward. He trusts his team, supports collaboration, and helps connect the day-to-day work at Wye Marsh to a bigger long-term vision.

That vision is rooted in conservation, community engagement, and ensuring future generations have the same opportunities to experience and learn from this incredible wetland!

We’re grateful for his leadership, good humour, and passion for the marsh.

Thanks, Eric, for all that you do.

When you look through the Tower Viewer, who do you see?

You might spot a familiar face — including longtime friend of the marsh David Hawke!

David is a local nature writer, wildlife photographer, and environmental consultant with deep roots at Wye Marsh! He has created alasting legacy of nature education, storytelling, and connection to this place!

As part of Beyond the Boardwalk, a new outdoor art installation by artist John Notten, visitors are invited to scan the QR code and hear what David has to say about Wye Marsh in his own words.

The installation is now complete and ready to experience this weekend!

Lucas from our Stewardship Team is continuing his invasive species management and native plant monitoring along the trails this week.

While out monitoring, Lucas also noticed an orange butterfly called a Northern Crescent. These small butterflies are often found in sunny, open areas and are known to visit wildflowers for nectar.

When you see pink or red flags along the trails, those mark where native plants have been planted. Lucas maps these locations and checks on each plant’s growth and overall health.

You can also join Lucas for invasive species pulls during Stewardship Saturdays and help support this important restoration work.
