MSH is one of Ontario’s leading community hospitals serving Canada’s most diverse population in one of its fastest growing regions. Caring for over 437,000 patients each year, with 354 beds, redeveloped facilities, excellent clinical programs and leading health technology, MSH proudly provides patient care that uniquely combines the scope of a large hospital with the warm and personal touch that only a community hospital can offer. MSH is honoured to care for the more than 450,000 residents of Markham, Stouffville, Uxbridge, Richmond Hill, eastern York Region, north Durham and north Scarborough. Government can’t fund all life-saving equipment and top priority needs. Generous donor support is the reason our growing and aging community can count on exceptional care close to home, today, and for generations to come.

A Thanksgiving tradition that continues to make a difference! 🍂💙💚

Our friends at The Village Grocer brought shoppers together once again for their annual Giving Thanks campaign in support of Oak Valley Health Markham Stouffville Hospital (MSH).

A heartfelt thank you to Evan, Cathy, and the MacDonald Family for generously matching customer donations up to $100 per gift, to the entire Village Grocer team, and to everyone who shopped and donated throughout the campaign.

A special thank you as well to our volunteers and members of Markham Fire who generously gave their time to lend a helping hand bagging groceries throughout the week!

When Julie Atkinson turned 50, a routine mammogram was simply one more thing on her calendar. This routine screening marked the beginning of a breast cancer journey that would change her life.

After nearly 29 years as a Child Life Specialist at Oak Valley Health’s Markham Stouffville Hospital (MSH), Julie was used to being the one helping children and families through difficult moments. Suddenly, she was the patient, relying on her colleagues for the same comfort and reassurance she had offered to others throughout her career.

From the fear of her diagnosis to ringing the bell on her last day of chemotherapy, Julie’s experience gave her a whole new perspective on the hospital she has long called home. 💙

Canada Computers & Electronics brought together vendors, business partners, sponsors, and golfers for its inaugural Charity Golf Tournament.

On National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, we honour the children who never returned home from residential schools and show our support for survivors and their families. 🧡

The impacts of residential schools continue to be felt across generations. Listening to Indigenous voices and learning about this history help us better understand the role we each play in reconciliation.

We all have a part in building stronger relationships with Indigenous communities and helping ensure Indigenous patients and families feel respected and supported in their care. Together, we can carry this commitment forward, on September 30 and throughout the year.

For 35 years, Dr. Henry Solow’s patients trusted him with their care. After a sudden cardiac arrest abroad, it was his turn to place that trust in the hospital he calls home. 💙

While on vacation in the Bahamas, Dr. Solow’s son performed CPR and used a defibrillator to save his father’s life. Dr. Solow returned to Oak Valley Health’s Markham Stouffville Hospital (MSH), where his colleagues supported him through treatment and recovery.

“I was just touched, because half the hospital came to see me: doctors, nurses from my clinic and other wards, lab staff. It was nothing short of exceptional.”

On World Heart Day, we’re resharing Dr. Solow’s story as a reminder of the difference access to specialized cardiac care close to home can make.

An incredible milestone for the Bachra family! ⛳️

This year’s Bachra Family Golf Tournament raised an outstanding $235,000, with all proceeds supporting Child and Adolescent Mental Health at Oak Valley Health’s Markham Stouffville Hospital (MSH).

Since launching the tournament in 2021, the Bachra family has now raised an incredible $1 million to help strengthen care for patients and families across a number of departments at MSH.

We’re deeply grateful to MSH Foundation Past Board Chair Bill Bachra and the entire Bachra family for their continued generosity and commitment to giving back. A special thank you as well to the sponsors, golfers, family and friends who helped make this year’s tournament such a success.

Congratulations to the Bachra family on this remarkable milestone, and thank you for continuing to make a lasting impact on care close to home. 💙

For Mark Lievonen, a routine screening made all the difference.

After testing showed elevated prostate-specific antigen (PSA) levels, Mark began a journey that included years of monitoring, surgery, and treatment at Oak Valley Health’s Markham Stouffville Hospital (MSH).

This Prostate Cancer Awareness Month, we’re shining a light on Mark's experience to highlight his important message about early detection and regular screening.

“The most important thing I can recommend is getting the PSA test and doing the prostate cancer screening,” Mark shares. “This is a disease that, if you diagnose early, it is treatable.”
