Lev Goldberg is combining athletic ambition and LGBTQ+ advocacy as he takes on one of the biggest swimming challenges in North America.

Marathon swimmer, runner, and therapist Lev Goldberg is preparing to cross Lake Huron during the first week of August, following his successful marathon swim across Lake Ontario last year.

The challenge is part of Goldberg’s long-term goal of completing ratified marathon swims across all five Great Lakes, an achievement reached by only a small number of swimmers. If he completes the journey, Goldberg would become the first openly transgender person to accomplish the feat.

Beyond the physical challenge, Goldberg is using the swim to support LGBTQ+ youth. He is raising thousands of dollars for a Canadian peer support organization that provides community, resources, and connection for young LGBTQ+ people.

Goldberg has described the Lake Huron crossing as the next major step in a historic personal mission, one that represents both athletic endurance and greater visibility for transgender athletes.

His journey highlights how sports can become a platform for representation, showing that determination, identity, and advocacy can move forward together, one stroke at a time.

🌈 August Days of Significance

In August, we recongize two days that celebrate identity, visibility, and the many ways 2SLGBTQIA+ people show up in our families and communities.

πŸ’œ Gay Uncles Day β€” Second Sunday in August

Gay Uncle Day celebrates the love and unique role gay uncles (Guncles) bring to their families. It’s a day to show some extra appreciation for the gay uncles in our lives and celebrate the importance of being seen, valued, and loved within our families.

πŸ’™ Butch Appreciation Day β€” August 18

Butch Appreciation Day celebrates butch identity, masculine gender expression, and the history and contributions of butch people within the 2SLGBTQIA+ community. It’s a day to celebrate visibility, challenge stereotypes, and recognize the resilience and diversity of q***r, nonbinary, and transgender people who embody butchness.

Pride London celebrates the many identities, expressions, and relationships that make our community who we are. 🌈
