Originating in the United States as Le***an and Gay History Month in 1994, it is a time to recognize and learn about 2SLGBTQIA+ history and movements for equality and human rights. This month, take time to discover the people, organizations, protests, and milestones that have shaped 2SLGBTQIA+ history in Canada. 🇨🇦

Canada marked the first National Day for Truth and Reconciliation on September 30, 2021, following the identification of potential unmarked burial sites at the former Kamloops Indian Residential School in British Columbia.

Survivors across Canada have long told stories of the abuse and deaths that took place at these institutions. The Tk’emlúps te Secwépemc First Nation’s announcement has galvanized nationwide efforts by Indigenous communities to locate their missing children.

September 30 is recognized as Orange Shirt Day, an Indigenous-led grassroots commemorative day inspired by the story of Indian Residential School Survivor Phyllis Webstad.

Phyllis was 6 years old when she wore her new orange shirt for her first day at St. Joseph Mission Indian Residential School. Her shirt was immediately taken from her by school staff.

Many across Canada wear an orange shirt on this day to honour Phyllis and other children who survived Indian Residential Schools and to remember those who did not.

Commemorating this day is an opportunity to honour Survivors and deepen understanding of the history and impact of Residential Schools. It is one essential step in a long journey towards truth-telling and meaningful reconciliation.

The design honours the children who never returned home from residential schools, Survivors, their families and communities.

In the centre are three symbols: a feather, a narwhal, and a flower. Each symbol represents the distinct cultures of First Nations, Inuit and Métis communities, brought together in a circular flowing composition to reflect the connection between the groups.

Above the central elements, stars surrounding the moon honour the children who never returned home from residential schools and symbolize their enduring place in our thoughts and memory. The dotted patterns evoke beadwork and reflect the importance of passing down art, culture and traditions from one generation to the next.

Flowing lines connect the elements of the design, reflecting the connections between land, water, communities and generations. Their winding path represents the journey of reconciliation and reminds us that reconciliation is an ongoing process.

The colour orange represents remembrance and the enduring message that every child matters.

Family Centre Argyle's biggest event of the year is happening Saturday, October 17th between 10:00am-12:00pm. Drop by for our Season of Giving Fall Festival! All families are welcome!

Our team has been busy putting together so many Fall-inspired games, crafts, activities, and play areas! In addition we will have our Bouncy Castle, Prize Draws, a Take What You Need Pop-Up Market, and a Farm Animal Petting Zoo!

If you are able, we will be collecting non-perishable food items to support local Emergency Food Cupboards.

This event is always so much fun and a wonderful way to kick of the Season of Giving! We can't wait to see you there!

Pride history matters.

We’re helping spread the word about Pride History in Canada / L’histoire de la Fierté au Canada, a national bilingual virtual conference hosted by the Canadian Pride Historical Society on October 16–17, 2026.

Our Pride movement has been shaped by generations of organizers, activists, community leaders and organizations across Canada. Preserving and sharing those stories helps us understand where we have come from and carry that knowledge forward.

The conference will bring together community leaders, researchers, educators, archivists, Pride organizations, historians, students and community members to preserve, share and learn from the history of the Pride movement in Canada.

We encourage FCP members, Pride organizers and community members from across Canada to check it out and take part.
