Funding Bulletin: New Ontario Support for London’s Music Businesses

Ontario Creates has opened new funding opportunities that could be useful to music businesses, promoters, presenters and festivals in London.

The Ontario Music Investment Fund has been updated for 2026–27, including a new Music Futures stream aimed at smaller, established music businesses with demonstrated growth potential. The programme supports Ontario record labels, music publishers, music management companies, live music promoters and presenters, including eligible festivals.

President Donald Trump’s decision to pause the latest round of threatened tariffs on Canadian goods is welcome news. For businesses in London and across Southwestern Ontario, the alternative would have been another serious shock to an already uncertain trading environment.

The problem has most decidedly not gone away. This is a three-day pause to give negotiators time to work.

That is encouraging. Dialogue is producing results. But Canadian businesses need more than a temporary reprieve. They need to know what the rules will be next month, next year and several years from now.

Uncertainty has a real economic cost. Businesses make decisions about hiring, investment and expansion based on some reasonable expectation of what the future will look like. When the rules can change within days, those decisions become harder to make.

London has a particular stake in what happens next.

According to the London Economic Development Corporation, more than 700 London businesses exported approximately $7.8 billion in goods to the United States in 2023. Our manufacturing, transportation, food processing and related sectors are deeply connected to the North American economy.

Congratulations to Ontario’s Big City Mayors for continuing to press for a stronger provincial response to homelessness, mental health and addictions through the next phase of the Solve the Crisis campaign.

Particular congratulations to London Mayor Josh Morgan for his leadership on an issue that affects communities across Ontario and is felt every day here in London.

The London Chamber of Commerce has been making the same case locally through our work with London’s Whole of Community response. We also believe there is a missing piece that deserves greater attention: practical support for businesses dealing every day with the street-level consequences of homelessness, mental health and addictions.

We have been advocating for clearer response pathways, better tools and a stronger role for the business community in the solution. Mayor Morgan and his colleagues are helping build the case for the resources communities need, and we look forward to continuing the work here in London.
