🐶🎉 Who’s ready for a PUPPY PARTY?!

Our “Dip” puppies are taking over PetSmart North Whitby this Sunday, and they’re hoping to meet their forever families! ❤️

Aioli, Pico De Gallo, Salsa, Buffalo Chicken Dip, Cowboy Caviar, and Hummus will all be there. It’s quite the snack lineup, although we should warn you that these dips may steal your heart AND your socks. 😂

Come meet the pups and find out which little dip you can’t resist. A party is fun, but a forever home is what they’re really hoping for. 🏡🐾

Last week was a bit of a weird week at HSKL! While our floors were being done, we moved into the smaller building with some of our animals. Only some, because a HUGE chunk of our crew were welcomed into foster homes for the week and got to enjoy Thanksgiving in a home. ❤️

For animals like Tabitha, who has been with us for almost a year, that break was especially meaningful. And our foster families helped us learn a few things about our crew:

🐾 Cheeto really likes kids.
🐾 Kenai enjoys ice cream. No complaints about that particular outing.
🐾 Orchid may be shy, but treats are the way to her heart. Apparently, friendship comes with snacks.
🐾 Suki is a playful, goofy girl who also appreciates a good couch nap. Balance is important.
🐾 Figaro likes other cats and is happy to have some feline company.
🐾 Abby confirmed that she is, in fact, a queen. Interrupting her beauty sleep is unacceptable, and she would like to speak to management.

A couple even found their forever homes during their week in foster care! What started as a temporary stay turned into something much more. ❤️

So many animals got a well-deserved break, and honestly, our staff had a chance to catch their breath too after a very busy few months.

This Thanksgiving, we are so grateful for our fosters, volunteers, and staff. You helped make an unusual week something really special. Thank you for opening your homes, making room on your couches, and giving our animals the chance to relax and show us more of who they are.

Happy Thanksgiving from all of us at HSKL! 🐾

Meet Steele ❤️
Steele is 2 years old, incredibly goofy, and the kind of dog who will keep you laughing.
He is friendly, affectionate, and a total leaner. When Steele wants pats, he puts his whole body into it.
Kids can be a little scary and unpredictable for him, so he would be best suited to a home with older children who can give him space and interact with him calmly.
Steele can get a little overexcited around other dogs and may bark when he sees them. With a proper introduction, he may do well with the right female dog. He has also lived with cats before, but does get excited when he sees them.
Steele can sometimes be unsure of men, but once he feels comfortable, his silly and affectionate personality really comes out.
If you are looking for a big, funny, loving dog with tons of personality, Steele might be your guy.

Have you always thought about volunteering at an animal shelter but didn't know where to start?

Drop by our table at the Kawartha Lakes Volunteer Fair next Wednesday, Oct. 14 from 2-7 pm at the Lindsay Fairgrounds. Learn more about volunteering with animals at the shelter, helping out at our Second Chance Thrift Store, driving animals to vet appointments, and helping get animals adopted at special events - among many other volunteer jobs!

George is 8 months old, full of energy, and ready to finally start living his best life. ❤️
This sweet boy came in as a stray and was never claimed, but he is not letting that slow him down. George loves to play and could happily keep going for hours.
He does well with kids, cats, and other dogs, and he has all the potential in the world. He is still very much a busy puppy and will need some continued training, structure, and patience as he grows.
If you are looking for a fun, social, active pup to join you on adventures and keep you laughing, George might be your guy.

🐾 Meet Maggie, our Y919 Pet of the Week! ❤️

A big heart, a beautiful brindle coat, and a whole lot of love to give—this four-year-old Mastiff mix is ready to find her people.

Maggie arrived at the Humane Society of Kawartha Lakes as a stray about a month ago. She needed some extra veterinary care, and after recovering very well, she’s ready for her next chapter: a home where she’s loved, safe, and part of the family. 🏡

Maggie loves people, absolutely adores her toys, and wants to be right beside you. She knows basic commands and is a smart, willing girl who’s ready to keep learning. A familiar routine helps her feel comfortable and lets that loving personality shine.

She’s excited when she first heads out for a walk—there’s a whole world to sniff!—but settles quickly and walks well. As a large, energetic girl, she’d enjoy plenty of space to run and explore. A rural property could be a wonderful fit.

🐶 Maggie could live with other dogs with proper introductions.
🐱 She hasn’t been tested with cats.
💕 She loves children; a home with kids five and older would be her best fit.

She’s spayed, microchipped, and up to date on vaccines and parasite prevention. Now she needs someone to offer companionship, structure, and all the love she deserves.

Kenai is only 8 months old and already a full-time cuddle bug. ❤️

This sweet mixed-breed boy is basically a 50-pound lap dog who would happily spend his day snuggled up as close to you as possible. He loves stuffed toys, affection, and being with his people.

Kenai is still building his confidence and would do best with a patient family who can help him feel safe and secure as he grows.

He does need to be the only dog in the home, but trust us, he has more than enough love to fill the whole house.

If you’re looking for the snuggliest best friend around, Kenai is waiting.

Maggie has already fought hard for her second chance. Now she just needs someone to give it to her. ❤️

This 4-year-old big girl came to us as a stray with a massive mass that had to be removed to save her life. She made it through, she’s thriving, and now she is SO ready to trade shelter life for a couch, a family, and all the love she can get.

Maggie is sweet, affectionate, playful and a total foodie. She loves fetch, plays well with most dogs, and while she can be a little excited at first, she settles in beautifully.

She has so much love to give and has already overcome so much.

Now Maggie needs her happy ending. Could it be with you? ❤️
