After years of advocacy by the OFAH, Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) is proposing to establish a sandhill crane season in parts of northern and central Ontario. The government has opened a 30-day consultation period for Proposals to Amend the Canadian Migratory Birds Regulations, including the following proposals:

• Establish a Sandhill Crane hunting season in Ontario’s Hudson and James Bay District, and portions of the Northern and Central Districts.

• Establish a 7-day Canada Goose hunting season in southern Ontario’s Wildlife Management Units (WMU) 69A, 70 to 73, 77 to 81, and 86 to 93 during the month of February.

• Discontinue the production of hard copy/paper Migratory Game Bird Hunting permits and regulation summaries, as early as the beginning of the 2027–2028 hunting season.

You can review full proposal details here: https://www.canada.ca/en/environment-climate-change/services/migratory-game-bird-hunting/consultation-process-regulations/report-series/proposals-amend-document-2026.html

We want to take a moment and thank the folks from Alderville First Nations for a nesting structure exchange. Last week we exchanged a Delta branded Wood Duck box for one of their Bat Boxes. It is always great to work within the local community to help support local conservation initiatives. Thanks again Alderville First nations.

Just like to take the time to thank everyone who does predator control in our hunting area! Without these people harvesting top quality fur and keeping things in check there would be less waterfowl for everyone to hunt!

“Hunting with young kids is a different game — but one I’ve come to love…The harvest is a bonus. The real goal is fun, positive memories, and laying the groundwork for a lifetime of shared experiences.” Tom Armstrong writes.
