United Way Haliburton Kawartha Lakes

United Way Haliburton Kawartha Lakes Building a strong community and improving lives in Haliburton and Kawartha Lakes. On January 1st, 1967 United Way was incorporated in the Town of Lindsay.

History of the United Way for the
City of Kawartha Lakes

For more than seven decades people have been caring for others in our community. In the 1980s the United Way board of directors responded to the needs of citizens outside the town of Lindsay by expanding to include all of Victoria County. In August 2002, in response to the change of the name of our geographic catchment area, a final name ch

ange occurred: United Way for the City of Kawartha Lakes. Across Canada there are approximately 117 United Ways. Each one is autonomous and has a locally elected volunteer Board of Directors that sets the policy and direction of the organization. This United Way is no longer just a funding agency! It is a community builder, enabling people to make a difference through community partnerships, investment and collaboration. The concept of people working together to care for one another in our community means more than 25,000 individuals can access programs and services.

A look back at Leading Forward 2026 in Halifax! 🇨🇦

Earlier this spring, our Co-Executive Director, Shantal Ingram, joined United Way representatives from across Canada for two days of learning, collaboration, and conversations about creating stronger, more resilient communities.

The conference provided an opportunity to connect with others across the United Way network, share ideas, and learn from innovative approaches being used in communities across the country.

We are grateful for opportunities like this to strengthen our work and bring new insights back to Haliburton and Kawartha Lakes.

Today is Menstrual Hygiene Day.

Everyone deserves access to menstrual products and education.

Through the Period Promise campaign, United Way Centraide is working to address period poverty in our communities.

Let’s break stigma and build inclusive communities where no one is left behind.
