This is Cayley, Youth One’s undisputed Mario Kart Champion!

Coming from a background in neuroscience, Cayley knows the impact that a caring adult can have on a developing brain, and she brings her same passion for science into her role as a leader at Youth One!

Whether you’re looking to play Pokémon Go, make a resume, or just need someone to lend an ear, Cayley’s got you!

Welcome to the final episode of our Career Builder Series! This week, Cayley shares essential tips to help you conquer interview nerves and land the job:

✅Be confident yet humble: Show strength, but emphasize that you are a great team player.
✅Prep like it’s an exam: Practice common questions beforehand so you feel ready.
✅Show up 10 minutes early: Bring a printed copy of your resume to leave a lasting impression.
✅Spin your weaknesses: Choose a genuine, improvable trait (like being overly detail-oriented) that puts a positive spin on your answer.
✅Rejection is part of the process: A “no” isn’t personal; it just points you toward the right fit.

Meet Alyssa, one of the leaders at Youth One!

Once upon a time, Alyssa was actually a youth at Youth One! Now she’s a leader who gives others the same support and kindness she got during her time as a youth!

When she’s not leading family time games or kitchen karaoke, you can find her at the gym, hanging with her dog, or learning to ride her motorcycle.

Today, September 30th, Youth One is closed in honor of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation (Orange Shirt Day).

We take this day to honor the Survivors of residential schools, remember the children who never returned home, and reflect on the ongoing impact on Indigenous families and communities.

We encourage everyone to spend today listening, learning, and reflecting on how we can all walk together toward healing and reconciliation.

Our regular programs will resume tomorrow.

Welcome back to our Career Builder Series! This week, Cayley shares practical tips on how to dress for a job interview and put your best foot forward:

Keep it clean and comfortable: Whatever you choose to wear, make sure your clothes are clean, presentable, and boost your confidence.
Keep it appropriate: Aim for professional fits, like knee-length skirts or dresses, slacks, or a nice collared shirt or polo.
Jeans can work: If you do not have formal wear, a neat pair of jeans paired with a clean, nice top works great for teen interviews.
Smart footwear: Closed-toe shoes like loafers or dress shoes are ideal, but a pair of clean, classic sneakers (like white Converse) works too!

We are so grateful for the amazing volunteers who show up for our youth every single day, but our team needs to grow!

We are currently looking for volunteers to help with our lunch, drop-in, and sports programs from Monday to Thursday. Whether you want to help serve meals, hang out during drop-in hours, or run sports activities, there is a place for you here.

If you are interested in making a difference in the lives of local youth, send us a DM or head to youthone.ca/volunteer to apply!

It’s Jacob! He is our resident sports boss. If you have a hot take about the NFL or base ball i’m sure he would love to hear it.

Jacob’s other job is working with Young Life of Canada which gives him tons of opportunity to interact with teens in contexts across Lethbridge and area. Jacob not only brings a passion for sports but a real desire to see students reach their full potential.

If he’s not cheering on the Mariners or Seahawks, you’ll find him with his young family or coaching everything from rugby to basketball.
