Royal Canadian Sea Cadet Corps 34 Chinook

Royal Canadian Sea Cadet Corps 34 Chinook A youth organization themed after the Royal Canadian Navy From September to June, Sea Cadets participate in local training one evening per week. Do we Travel?

All Sea Cadet Corps are also required to conduct a minimum of 4 weekend activities throughout the year. Most corps augment this with optional activities on alternate weeknights and weekends. The core values of the Cadet program include Leadership, Citizenship and Physical Fitness. Sea Cadets get to participate in a great variety of activities, including many experiences that are unique to this pro

gram.
• Boating & Sailing
• Military Marching Band
• Swimming & Watersports
• Camping
• Citizenship (Parades, Community Events)
• Marksmanship & Biathlon
• Sports & Fitness
• Naval Knowledge
• Leadership Training
• Local, Regional & National Competitions
Other activities include corps trips, competitions, scuba diving and additional on-water training. TEACHING VALUES – The Cadet Program emphasizes key values such as loyalty, professionalism, mutual respect and integrity. Cadets also learn about fair play, teamwork and tolerance through all of their activities. Who can join Sea Cadets? Any Canadian citizen or landed Immigrant in good health can join as early as 12 years of age, and can remain until they turn 19, the age at which they must retire. How much is it going to cost me? Sea Cadets is sponsored by a civilian agency and the corps raises its own money during the year with various fundraising events. The Canadian Forces provides uniforms, training facilities and instructors, and thus, Sea Cadets is virtually FREE. Who teaches Sea Cadets? Sea Cadet instructors are often past cadets themselves. They are members of the community and hold civilian occupations in areas such as business owners, police officers, medical persons, and school employees. Higher ranking Sea Cadets are also instructors, as well as members of local military units. Are there summer camps? Summer courses are a very big part of Sea Cadets, and are run every year in July and August. There are many different courses ranging from 2 to 8 weeks. Cadets are not required to attend the courses, but it is highly recommended. You can take everything from basic cadet courses to advanced technical training, from Band and leadership courses to sailing, shipwright, and sports instructor. You can make great friends from all over Canada and other countries in the process! As with the rest of Sea Cadets, summer courses are free, and each cadet is actually paid a training allowance of $60 per week. Eventually an experienced cadet can apply for staff positions for summer courses, and get pay equivalent to a full-time summer job. Do I have to join the military? Sea Cadets are not members of the Canadian Forces, nor will they ever be asked to join. If you choose to join though, you will have a great advantage over other applicants (most high-ranking officers in the Canadian Forces started off in the cadet program). However, you will never be required to serve with the military. Every year, we travel within Alberta regularly. Each summer cadets from across Canada have the opportunity to enter in the exchange program to locations all over the world. Where are we located? Sea Cadets parade Monday nights at the Vimy Ridge Armoury 337 Stubb Ross Road, Lethbridge County Airport. How do I join? It's easy to join. All you need to do is come out to the Armouries on a Monday night (preferably as close to 6:30 as possible). If you would like, you can follow a group of cadets around during their training and your parents are welcome to attend to watch and ask questions. If you decide to join, you will need to fill out and hand in an application, along with a photocopy of your Alberta Health card. You will also need to show proof of Canadian citizenship or Landed Immigrant status, and may need to show other documents to prove your age (such as birth certificate).
