Why Girls Inc.?

At Girls Inc. Limestone, all of our programs are offered free of charge because every girl and gender-expansive young person deserves access to opportunities that help them learn, grow, and thrive.

We are guided by a vision of powerful girls, women, and gender-expansive people in an equitable society.

Through life-changing programs and empowering experiences, participants build confidence, leadership skills, resilience, and a strong sense of self while learning to navigate social, economic, and gender-based barriers.

The impact is real. Independent research found that Girls Inc. participants were more likely to engage in behaviours and hold beliefs that support physical and mental well-being, academic achievement, strong character, and leadership.

Every young person deserves the chance to discover their strengths, find their voice, and realize their full potential.

That's why Girls Inc.

As we recognize National Indigenous History Month, we would like to shine a light on the incredible work being done by the Kingston Native Centre and Language Nest - KNCLN!

KNCLN supports Indigenous languages, culture, community, and connection through a wide range of programs and services. From language revitalization and cultural programming to youth initiatives, employment supports, and community events, their work helps strengthen Indigenous identity and create opportunities for learning, belonging, and growth.

National Indigenous History Month is an opportunity for all of us to listen, learn, and deepen our understanding of the histories, cultures, and contributions of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis Peoples.

We encourage our community to learn more about KNCLN and the important role they play in our region.

Best Friends Day!

A good friend can make all the difference.

Whether it's sharing a laugh, offering encouragement, standing up for one another, or simply being there when it matters most, friendships help young people build confidence, resilience, and a sense of belonging.

As we celebrate Best Friends Day, we're grateful for the friendships that grow through Girls Inc. programs and the supportive communities that help girls+ thrive.

"A good friend reminds you of your strength when you've forgotten it yourself."

Tag a friend who has helped you grow.

Periods should never stand in the way of confidence, education, or opportunity.

Today on Menstrual Hygiene Day, we recognize the importance of breaking stigma and supporting access to menstrual products, education, and open conversations around health and wellness.

Let's break the silence surrounding menstruation, ensuring every girl, woman and gender-expansive person has access to proper hygiene and education. Together, we can create a world where periods are a source of pride, not shame.

We are also grateful for organizations like United Way Kingston, Frontenac, Lennox & Addington and initiatives like the Period Promise campaign that help support people across our community.

A landmark Supreme Court ruling in Canada is being recognized as a major step forward for survivors of intimate partner violence.

The decision will make it easier for survivors of intimate partner violence (IPV) to pursue civil damages against their abusers — an important acknowledgement of the lasting impacts abuse can have on a person’s life.

Following the ruling, Canadian Women's Foundation President and CEO Mitzie Hunter shared these powerful words:

“1 woman or girl is killed every 48 hours in Canada.”

“There is so much more we can do. Believe her. Listen to her. Ask her what she needs in terms of support.”

“Today’s ruling in the Supreme Court of Canada gives us another tool in the toolkit to ensure that women and girls and gender diverse people are safe wherever they are.”

At Girls Inc. Limestone, this is part of the work that matters deeply to us.

We believe girls+ deserve to grow up feeling safe, heard, respected, supported, and empowered to build healthy relationships and strong futures.

Because listening matter.
Support matters.
Safety matters.
