BOLD FUTURES for Women Program starts November 2! Applications are now open!

Are you ready to build new skills, explore career opportunities and take the next step toward employment?

BOLD FUTURES is a 24-week employment program for women+ with disabilities in the greater Kingston and Belleville areas.

What does the program offer?

* Employment readiness workshops and skills training
* Paid work placements
* Personalized guidance and support
* A living allowance during the program
* Financial assistance for transportation, childcare, training and other eligible expenses

Who can apply?

Women+ aged 18 and older who:
- Live in the greater Kingston or Belleville areas
- Self-identify as having a permanent or recurring disability, including physical, mental health or neurodevelopmental conditions
- Are eligible to work in Canada

Your goals matter, and we're here to help you achieve them!

What does a healthy friendship look like?

It's about more than having fun together. It's about respect, honesty, equality and responsibility.

During our latest Lead From Here: Character in Action session, girls in our After-School Program became Friendship Detectives, exploring real-life situations and talking about what makes friendships healthy, supportive and fair.

Then they got creative, building their own Friendship Toolboxes!

Each tool represented a practical way to navigate disagreements, set boundaries, stand up to peer pressure, encourage others and make things right when feelings get hurt.

Along the way, they practiced four important skills: respect, critical thinking, self-advocacy and emotional intelligence.

Because learning how to be a good friend, speak up for yourself and work through challenges helps build confidence and stronger relationships, now and in the future. ❤️

Helping girls+ take control of their digital lives. ❤️

Social media, smartphones and technology are part of growing up today. But navigating the digital world isn't always easy.

Thanks to funding from United Way Kingston, Frontenac, Lennox & Addington and the City of Kingston - Municipal Government, Girls Inc. is excited to bring our Girls+ Building Healthy Digital Habits Project to life, centred on our new CTRL Your Scroll: Beyond the Screen curriculum!

Developed through a collaboration between Girls Inc. Headquarters and , this eight-session program helps girls+ explore how technology affects their mental health, self-image, relationships and overall wellbeing.

Through engaging activities and open conversations, participants will learn to:

Recognize when it's time to step away from their screens.

Navigate online comparison, stress and social pressures.

Communicate with kindness and confidence, both online and offline.

Build healthier digital habits that support their wellbeing.

It's not about giving up technology. It's about learning to use it in ways that empower rather than overwhelm.

We're incredibly grateful to United Way of KFL&A and the City of Kingston for investing in the mental health and wellbeing of girls+ in our community.

Together, we're helping young people reclaim their time, attention and confidence — on and off the screen.

Strong. Smart. Bold. And in control of their digital lives. ❤️

October is Women’s History Month in Canada.

It’s a chance to look back at the women who broke barriers, challenged expectations and created change.

But it’s also a reason to look forward.

Every day, girls in our communities are discovering what interests them, finding their voices, building confidence and beginning to imagine what their futures could look like.

Some will lead. Some will build businesses, make discoveries, create art, strengthen their communities or pursue paths that don’t even exist yet. Each will write a story of her own.

We don’t know what their stories will be.

And that’s what makes the possibilities so exciting.

Her story is just beginning. ❤️

Gratitude, kindness and a little creativity!

Our Girls Ed After-School participants have been putting Lead From Here: Character in Action into practice with their very own Gratitude Turkeys!

Each feather represented something they were thankful for. Some participants even turned their creations into cards to share with someone special. 💌

It's a simple activity with a meaningful message.

By reflecting on gratitude and finding ways to express it, participants explored kindness and emotional intelligence - recognizing their feelings, appreciating others and strengthening connections.

Because sometimes, a simple thank you can mean so much. 💜

Lead From Here: Character in Action!

Leadership isn't just about taking charge. It's about how we think, how we treat others, and how we show up every day.

Throughout October, our Girls Ed After-School Program is exploring confidence, critical thinking and kindness through Lead From Here: Character in Action, a Girls Inc. network-wide initiative.

In their first session, participants explored body image, peer influence and the importance of looking beyond physical appearance.

Through fictional character cards, real-life scenarios, the STOP → THINK → CHOOSE framework and a creative paper-person activity, girls practiced questioning assumptions, recognizing their strengths and appreciating what makes others unique.

These activities are part of our Healthy Mind + Body and Mind Over Pressure programming, helping girls navigate outside pressures, make their own choices and build a more supportive community. 💜

Because leadership starts with the choices we make every day.

💜💙 Tonight, Canada lights up purple and blue for disability-inclusive employment!
October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM).

Light It Up! for NDEAM brings communities across the country together to celebrate the skills, talents and contributions of people with disabilities and highlight the importance of inclusive workplaces.

At Girls Inc., our Bold Futures program supports participants while also working with local employers to promote inclusive hiring practices and effective workplace accommodations.

When employers recognize skills, remove barriers and create opportunities, everyone benefits. Disability inclusion strengthens workplaces and builds stronger communities.

Creating more inclusive workplaces takes all of us.

Our first Family Night of the school year was a success! ❤️

Games, challenges, a scavenger hunt and plenty of laughter brought Girls Inc. families together for an evening of fun and connection!

It was also an opportunity for parents and caregivers to get a glimpse of what happens in our Girls Ed programming.

Earlier this month, participants explored their interests, values, strengths and hopes for the future. At Family Night, families had the chance to share in that experience and celebrate those hopes and dreams together.

We loved welcoming participants, siblings, parents and caregivers into our program space and starting the year by building community.

Thank you to everyone who joined us! We can't wait for the next one!
