We're pleased to support this initiative, helping kidney patients in our community access blood pressure monitors, a simple tool that can make a meaningful difference in managing kidney health.

💙 Thank You for Supporting Kidney Patients in Our Community 💙

We are incredibly grateful to the Community Foundation for Kingston & Area for their generous $3,500 grant in support of kidney patients across our region.

This funding will help provide blood pressure monitors to individuals living with kidney disease who may not otherwise have access to this essential health tool. Regular blood pressure monitoring plays a critical role in managing kidney health, helping patients and their healthcare teams make informed decisions and potentially prevent further complications.

Through this support, more people affected by kidney disease will have the resources they need to take an active role in their health and well-being.

Thank you, Community Foundation for Kingston & Area, for investing in healthier communities and making a meaningful difference in the lives of kidney patients and their families. 💙

For Eric Carstens and Anita Krebs, the arts have always been a way of belonging to a place.

When the couple arrived in Kingston in 1980, they did what they always do in a new city: visited the museum and art gallery first. Decades later, that love of culture, from Domino Theatre to the Kingston Symphony to The Spire, has shaped not only their lives, but their giving.

Through their Krebs-Carstens Family Fund with the Community Foundation for Kingston & Area, Eric and Anita support the organizations that have meant the most to them and their family over the years.

"We love the Kingston arts community and we just like trying to support that financially because we can."

This June, we're celebrating Resilience Through the Arts, and we're kicking things off with a story about a community art school that has been keeping creativity alive in Kingston for more than 30 years.

When St. Lawrence College cut its arts programming in the early 1990s, a group of instructors and advocates rescued the equipment and opened the Kingston School of Art so that artmaking could remain accessible to everyone.

Today, KSOA has a new home at Providence Village and a new vision, but the same founding spirit: art should be available to people across Kingston, regardless of where they live or what their circumstances are.

We love seeing our community grants at work! Congratulations to the Kingston Symphony Orchestra team, and thank you for the incredible work you do to reduce social isolation and bring music to audiences across our region.

We are thrilled to share that we have received a $10,000 grant from the Community Foundation for Kingston & Area! This funding, provided through their Community Grants program, will help us to continue our outreach and education programming throughout the 2026-2027 season.

Through our work, we are proud to expand access to the performing arts in our region. Our outreach programs reach over 3,000 individuals annually and include initiatives for students, families, older adults, long-term care residents, and community audiences. These programs help to reduce social isolation, create community, and inspire the next generation of musicians and music lovers.

Thank you to the Community Foundation for Kingston & Area and the Audrey and Peter Scholes Memorial Fund for helping us to make music accessible throughout our community!

We are pleased to invite you to an upcoming interactive workshop focused on creating a more collaborative, sustainable, and prosperous future in Kingston using the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The workshop will be Wednesday June 17th, from 10am to 12pm, with lunch provided afterwards.

The workshop is organized by Local Futures https://uwaterloo.ca/localize-sustainable-development-goals/ in partnership with Queen's University, the City of Kingston - Municipal Governmentty, the Community Foundation for Kingston and Area, and United Way Kingston, Frontenac, Lennox & Addington. This work is part of a national project bringing community organizations, universities, and municipalities together to imagine and explore ways to overcome community challenges using the SDGs as a means to create change and focus on collective impact.

In 2015, all United Nations Member States adopted the SDGs to guide global action on the urgent economic, social, and environmental challenges facing our planet. Since then, the SDGs have increasingly gained attention from municipal leaders and community organizations as a useful common language to connect efforts around shared sustainability goals. When integrated well, the SDGs offer an opportunity to make local sustainability efforts more comprehensive and coordinated across the community.

This month's Community Catalyst is all about Youth Futures, and the stories inside remind us that when communities pay attention to young people, real change happens.

In this issue:

A drop-in program at Youth Diversion is reaching Kingston's most vulnerable youth, kids who have fallen through every other gap, with warm space, food, and four adults who know them by name. 92% of participants received no criminal charges while attending.

St. Lawrence Youth Association is launching SOAR, a new therapeutic group program for justice-involved young women, equipping them with tools and safe spaces to move forward.

More than 4,000 people across KFL&A have now completed trauma-informed care training, building a shared language for understanding what young people carry and how to help.

And we are honoured to share the story of Laurie and the late Cameron Thompson, whose donor-advised fund has invested in children and youth in Kingston since 1999. A beautiful reminder that youth futures are built one generous decision at a time.
