Valley Regional Hospital Foundation Enhancing healthcare in our Annapolis Valley community. Our Foundation works on behalf of you and your family to enhance healthcare at Valley Regional Hospital.

At times we partner with other Foundations and Auxiliaries in the Annapolis Valley to ensure residents have access to the best health care possible by providing up-to-date equipment that supports the services offered through the hospital. Through the generosity of thousands of donors, our Foundation has provided over $16 million to improve health care for residents of Kings and Annapolis Counties. Beginning with the first campaign to raise $8 million to build Valley Regional Hospital in 1992, funds raised since then have helped purchase equipment to improve regional health services such as diagnositc imaging, cardiac, medical, chemotherapy, orthopaedic, mental health, surgical and maternal & child. The Annapolis Valley Health District provides health care services for approximately 80,000 residents of Kings and Annapolis Counties.

Over $5,000 was raised during this Thanksgiving weekend for Valley Regional Hospital Foundation, in partnership with Valley Harvest Marathon 🏃‍♂️💨🍂

Thank you to supporters and racers! Every dollar will directly support patients in the Annapolis Valley who require financial assistance upon learning of a cancer diagnosis through the Sheila McKay Cancer Care Legacy fund.

Your impact will help lighten the load for local patients in easing the financial pressures of treatment costs, medical appointments, and hospital visits, so they can focus on healing.

October is breast cancer awareness month, and there is a mighty group of women dedicated to supporting cancer patients in the Annapolis Valley! 🩷🎗️

This June was the 21st annual Ken Wo’s Scramble for Cancer where they raised a remarkable $24,580 for the Sheila McKay Cancer Care Legacy Fund. ⛳️🏌️‍♀️

Over the years, the Scramble for Cancer Care has raised nearly a quarter million dollars, all of which has gone to directly support patients through the cancer patient navigator program at Valley Regional Hospital. This helps to support patients who need financial assistance upon learning of a cancer diagnosis to accommodate treatment plans, medical appointments, and hospital visits.

Patients experience a variety of pressures which can impact their care and recovery; having the community support behind them can be a much-needed boost. Thank you! 💕

Valley Regional Hospital Foundation is closed today for National Day of Truth and Reconciliation.

Over the past year, the Foundation has been intentionally seeking out learning opportunities from our diverse community populations to better enhance healthcare for everyone.

This past fall, our Board and staff participated in the KAIROS Blanket Exercise to understand the truth Indigenous Peoples still live with today, the history and enduring spirit of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis Peoples, and the part we all play in reconciliation.

The Foundation looks forward to continuing our learnings as we work together in enhancing healthcare for Annapolis Valley communities. 🧡

New equipment alert at Valley Regional Hospital!

While care often starts with a simple blood draw or sample collection, some of the most critical work happens away from the patient’s bedside. To keep pace with community needs and a high standard of care, the Lab at Valley Regional Hospital relies on advanced, reliable technology.

A cryostat needed to be replaced, and thanks to donor support, the Lab is reequipped.

This specialized instrument rapidly freezes body tissue so pathologists can examine microscope samples immediately.

Heather, Medical Lab Technologist, showed us how the equipment works and explained how critical a cryostat is. It allows for real-time diagnosis while a patient is still in the operating room—critical for surgeons to determine if they’ve cleared cancer margins, among other procedures.

For healthcare teams, a cryostat improves efficiency and greater accuracy. And for patients, it means better outcomes, less revision surgeries, and overall better care.
