We've seen the posts circulating today about Open Arms, and we understand why they've struck a nerve. Concerns about safety in your own neighbourhood are real, and we take that seriously. We also want to make sure our community has accurate information.

To be clear about a few specific claims:

We do not act as surety for anyone. Open Arms has no role in bail decisions, court conditions, or vouching for someone's release. That authority sits entirely with the justice system.

We do not set or supervise curfews, check-ins, or release conditions. Any conditions an individual is subject to, including hours, check-ins, or monitoring, are set and enforced by the justice system, not by us. We are not equipped to, and it is not our role to, supervise anyone on behalf of the justice system.

We know it's frustrating to hear "that's not our role" when what you want is reassurance that your community is safe. That reassurance must come from the systems responsible for supervision and risk, and we'd encourage anyone with safety concerns about a specific situation to bring them to the authorities.

We won't share details about the people who stay with us. Everyone who comes through our door deserves privacy, the same as anyone would want for themselves or a family member going through a hard time.

If you have questions about what we do and how we operate, please reach out to us directly before sharing details that may not be accurate. We're happy to have that conversation.

Open Arms Resource Centre and Nova Scotia Health's Public Health Mobile Unit are partnering to host a free Vaccine Clinic

Tuesday, July 7 from 11 am - 4 pm
• Open Arms Resource Centre:

11:00 AM - 4:00 PM

✔️Speak directly with Public Health nurses
✔️Ask questions about vaccines and eligibility
✔️Vaccinations available on-site throughout the day
✔️No appointment required to attend V Take-home Naloxone kits available

We are absolutely blown away by the support our community showed during Double Your Donation Day at The Home Depot , New Minas this past Saturday!
