Today we remember those who never came home. We honour those who were taken from their families and communities, forcefully stripped of their identity, language, and culture. We recognize the lasting impact of residential schools in the lives of so many, and are reminded of these realities through the testimonies of some of our friends here in the community.
Today, those affected by the hateful acts committed in Kamloops recently have a special place in our prayers. We think of our dear brother Arnold, who passed away earlier this year, and how he publicly shared his experience in the Kamloops Residential School. Knowing his story, among so many others, we are so appalled by these acts and are reminded that truth comes from listening to Indigenous voices, learning from the history, and changing as a result. Reconciliation is not about one day a year, but about continually listening, learning, reflecting, and taking meaningful action throughout the year.
