Our Story

The John Howard Society is a registered charity and social service agency with affiliated offices across Canada that are known for offering a wide range of innovative services within the fields of community justice, social services, health, and public interest issues. In the Central and South Okanagan we offer an assortment of services from Restorative Justice, Supportive Housing, and even a Cold Weather Shelter. Another big focus of our Society has been to provide individualized support to those under the care of Community Living BC (CLBC) through our Community Living Services.

Through our Community Living Services we provide 1-to-1 skill development, outreach, and community/home based supports for people with developmental disabilities, Autism, and Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder. As part of our mandate, we want to support individuals to live successfully within their community. This involves supporting people who may be at risk of becoming criminalized or are currently involved in the criminal justice system.

In additional to our Outreach + Community Inclusion services we also provide:

  • Connections: Weekly free and therapeutic rec activities and educational opportunities for those with FASD, Autism, and other developmental disabilities. This includes but is not limited to BBQs, art, workshops, new movies, and coffee socials.
