Mystery Gear Alert! 🤔

These two bins containing rope and camping gear were recently left beside the KSAR command trailer. The equipment appears to be older, but much of it looks new or never used.

We're trying to determine whether this was an intended donation, accidentally left behind, or belongs to someone who plans to return for it.

If you know anything about these bins or believe they may belong to you, please send us a message.

Thanks for helping us solve the mystery! 🚨🏕️🧗‍♂️

Rivers and creeks are running high, as they do most springs, and additional rainfall is expected over the coming days.

While there is no cause for alarm, it's a good reminder to stay well back from fast-moving water, avoid riverbanks that may be unstable, and keep children and pets away from swollen creeks and rivers.

Please use caution if you're spending time outdoors this weekend, and stay informed by following updates from the RDCK and BC River Forecast Centre.

Stay safe and enjoy the weekend.

RDCK Media Release - Flood watch issued for the entire RDCK

Follow the link for the complete details: https://www.rdck.ca/flood-watch-issued-for-the-entire-rdck/

The BC River Forecast Centre has issued a FLOOD WATCH for the entire West Kootenay region, this includes tributaries around Trout Lake, Lardeau River, Village of Kaslo, Nakusp, and City of Nelson, British Columbia.

Warmer weather over the past few days has led to increased snowmelt rates and rising river levels through the region. Severe weather, including moderate to heavy rainfall is expected to begin later Friday and extend through Monday and early Tuesday. Current modelling indicates the potential for the heaviest rains in the West Kootenay region - 50 to 100+ mm are expected through Monday.

High river flows are expected late Friday through Monday or Tuesday across the region. The current high end precipitation scenarios in weather models indicate the potential for flooding through the Kootenays.

Fast-flowing rivers pose increased risk to safety. Stay away from rivers and river banks, which can be unstable. Never drive through floodwaters, as unseen hazards and current can be life threatening.

Please report any erosion or flooding to the Provincial Emergency Coordination Centre at 1.800.663.3456

Just over a month ago, 4 members got together for a training trip up Idaho Peak. Initially powered by quads and snowmobile, they finished the trek to the top parking lot via snowshoes. This trip provided the members valuable experience in soft Spring snow conditions, trail clearing and avalanche assessments and observations, while also strengthening their mechanized travel training. Can you guess how many times they stopped to cut and clear trees or widen the trail? Put your guess in the comments!

A small sample of Kibou absolutely nailing a 2 hour old track through some difficult terrain, including a 90 degree direction change off of a well traveled path. Glen had no prior insight into where the track went. As he always says, "Trust the dog!". Well done!

At this week's training, the team used their tracking skills to determine a direction of travel for 'Ingred', which our search dog, Kibou, then followed to quickly find our subject. As this was much too quick, the team, unaware of the subject's exact location, used their search and detective skills, to also find the subject. Excellent work by all!

All proceeds go directly toward KSAR’s new building project — helping us build the space we need to safely store equipment, train, and respond when our community needs us most.

🚣‍♀️ A quick ask: if you have canoes or kayaks stored on the beach, please keep them to the west side of the lagoon to help keep the flight area clear.

Come take in the view and support your local SAR team at the same time. See you there! 💙
