Promoting the Kaslo and area trail network & the valuable work of the Kaslo Mountain Bike Club (KMBC)

Kaslo has a unique topography making it a natural destination for mountain biking. The benefits of expanding on our current trail system are many including: offering a healthy recreation opportunity to our community and thereby increasing our health and fitness levels overall; and increasing opportunities for children-in-sport by providing an area specific for beginner trail users to expand their skills… and have fun. It will help facilitate community participation as the vision of the Mount Buchanan area gets defined and developing a mountain bike trail network will help facilitate summer tourism. It should be noted that the new, well designed mountain bike trail system makes for excellent hiking trails in the summer and snow shoe routes in the winter. The emphasis is on non-motorized non-equestrian recreation opportunity for Kaslo and area citizens. KORTS Trail Crew Report Oct. 5, 2026
Our trail crew took some time away from our regular duties,to repair woodwork on Carslbad, Pandemic, Mr. Skinny, and I'll Call Rusty in preparation for the Trans BC Enduro race that came to Kaslo on Sept. 17. We also built a ride around on Angry Dwarf so the trail is now accessible to a wider range of abilities.
Other tasks we completed recently:
more blowdown on LSB, FG, Monster, Spanish Moss, West Access Trail, Lettrari Loop,
removed overhead danger trees Lettrari Loop
brushing East Access/Dougs Bike Park
rebuilt eroded corner on Lower Songbird
Built boardwalks on Lettrari Loop for seasonal wet spots
replaced guide rope, box steps, and rock ramp for e-bikes on Lettrari Loop cliffs
repaired blown out corners/tread repair on West Access trail from Trans BC Enduro race
We'll be wrapping up our season this week finishing up widening corners and tread on East Access trail and other maintenance on South River trail and small jobs throughout the network.
It's been a great season and so nice to see locals and tourists alike enjoying our amazing trail network.
Especially nice to see mountain bike culture alive and well in Kaslo with a successful XC and Enduro races this year and an amazing Downhill race on the Monster this past weekend!

Hi Everyone,
A friendly reminder that our AGM will be tomorrow night, 7pm sharp at the Heritage Hall in Kaslo.
If you are interested in becoming involved in the club we are looking for people to join our board! We need help coordinating the purchase and management of KMBC swag (shirts, hats etc). We need help with our website and social media presence, and with coordinating membership and volunteers for dig nights, club events and local races.
If you can't make it but are interested in joining the board, please reach out!

Just a heads up to everyone that this Thursday, September 17, Kaslo will be hosting the Trans BC Enduro bike race.
From 9:30 AM until roughly 4 PM, a large field of riders will be racing 5 stages down Carlsbad, Pandemic, West Access Trail, Angry Dwarf, Lower Monster, Mr. Skinny, (up Tattle Trail), Chainsmoker, Look Way Up,and I'll Call Rusty, then riding (not racing) down Lettrari Loop and North River trail back to Kaslo.
Trails are not closed, but you might want to avoid these trails during the event to keep everyone safe.

KORTS Trail Crew Report Aug. 22, 2026
Trail crew has been busy:
new signs Buckshot, No Brakes, Access Trail int.
Brushing / pruning Erratica, Spanish Moss
Brushing / Pruning Friendly Giant top to bottom
Buckshot steeps tread repair
Blowdown cleared on S. River Trail, West Access Trail, Friendly Giant, Chainsmoker
While on Friendly Giant all last week, we wanted to share the joy and appreciation of each and every rider (from the 70 somethings to the 8 year olds).
Folks are truly amazed at the experience of climbing a mountain on their e-bikes, mountain bikes or shuttling for the younger ones.
People truly are loving this trail.
So hats off to all of those involved in the vision, planning, fund raising, endless volunteer hours and all of the trail crew members.
To quote one of the more seasoned riders from Rossland who's ridden pretty much everywhere.... "Nothing really compares to the Friendly Giant".

It's back...
Registration is open for our Second Annual Wild Turkey Race!!

Where else can you ride amazing trails with an incredible group of people and follow up with a Turkey Dinner made right off the mountain?!

This is like going to grandma's family gathering but you have to work for it! Like Grandma's, the cooks need to know how many people to prepare for in order to optimize your post-race Turkey dinner hangover. So...

Pre-registration is REQUIRED if you want Turkey Dinner! Same day registrants are accepted but CASH ONLY and we cannot guarantee the full meal deal if you do not pre-register. Nobody wants leftovers, so PRE-REGISTER, like good guests do!

See all you Wild Turkeys there...

And YES there is pie!

You may have noticed the new bike repair station that has been installed at the Friendly Giant kiosk at Moose Meadows. This is thanks to the Kaslo Outdoor Recreation & Trails Society (KORTS) and a few of their directors who recognized the need and took initiative. Big thanks to the Kootenay Savings Community Foundation for helping fund the project and to Ken Butt for seeing it through 🙂

📣 **Trail Notice: Kaslo Wild Ultra – July 10–12**

The **Kaslo Wild Ultra** returns next weekend, bringing runners from across Canada to our local trail network for three days of racing.

Beginning this **Sunday**, the race organizers will be marking the courses throughout the trail system. If you're out riding or hiking over the coming week, you'll notice ribbons and directional markers along portions of the trails. These are temporary and will be removed the week following the event.

The trails will remain **open to all users** during race weekend. If you're out on the trails, please be aware that you may encounter runners (sometimes coming up downhill trails) and volunteers. We ask everyone to be courteous, communicate when passing, and help keep the trails safe for all users.

Kaslo Wild Ultra is a **non-profit, volunteer-run event** that helps support local trail organizations, including the Kaslo Mountain Bike Club, as well as children's programming through the Wildwood Discovery Society.
