Inclusion GP started with families who were done waiting.

In 2015, a group of parents in Grande Prairie came together because they wanted more for their sons and daughters: real friendships, real education, real jobs, real homes in the community. So instead of waiting for the system to catch up, they built the organization themselves.

That grassroots spirit, family-led, community-rooted, still drives everything we do today across the Peace Region.

Inclusive hiring isn't just the right thing to do, it's good business. When local employers open doors to people of all abilities, our whole community gets stronger.

Individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities bring reliability, dedication, and unique strengths to the workplace. If you're an employer in Grande Prairie ready to build a more inclusive team, we're here to help you get started.

Employees with intellectual disabilities have retention rates up to 90% higher than average. That's not charity. That's a hiring advantage most employers are overlooking.

Inclusive hiring builds stronger teams: lower turnover, loyal staff, and workplaces that reflect the communities they serve.

We work with local employers in Grande Prairie and the Peace Region to make inclusive hiring practical, not complicated. Reach out at inclusiongrandeprairie.org/contact-us

"Ready to check out whenever you are."

That's it. That's inclusive hiring. Not a special program with a lot of fanfare, just a skilled employee doing their job well.

"Ready, Willing and Able" is Inclusion Alberta's provincial partnership connecting employers with skilled workers who happen to have an intellectual disability or autism. Since it started, this initiative has helped create nearly 1,000 jobs across Alberta in trades, hospitality, manufacturing, childcare, culinary arts, and office administration. Real jobs. Real pay. No wage subsidies required.

And the business case is real too. Employers who hire inclusively consistently report lower turnover, stronger retention, and higher loyalty compared to industry averages. It's not charity. It's a smart hiring decision that also happens to be the right one.

Employers like ATS Traffic and Clark Builders have already signed on in Alberta. We want a Grande Prairie employer on this list next.

Know a local business owner or hiring manager who should hear about this? Tag them below or send them our way. We'll walk them through exactly what it looks like.

October is Disability Employment Awareness Month across Canada, and here in Grande Prairie, that means something real.

Inclusive employment isn't just a talking point, it's about the barriers that still exist and the progress our community is making to break them down.

The inclusion movement in Canada started with families who refused to accept "no." Since the late 1950s, parents, self-advocates, and communities across the country have been fighting to make sure people with intellectual disabilities are seen, included, and given the full lives they deserve. That fight built the national movement we now know as Inclusion Canada, and it laid the groundwork for what full inclusion could look like from coast to coast.

In 2015, Inclusion Grande Prairie joined that fight here in the Peace Region. We are a family-led advocacy organization working to ensure children and adults with intellectual disabilities live full, meaningful lives right here in Northwestern Alberta.

We were founded by families, for families, standing on 60+ years of people who came before us and refused to settle for less. We have not stopped since, and we are not planning to.

If you are looking for community, connection, and advocacy that understands your journey, you have found us.

Getting approved for PDD support is supposed to mean help is on the way. In rural Alberta, it too often means nothing at all.

Inclusion Alberta's January 2025 survey found that 19% of rural respondents who were eligible for PDD received zero services, compared to just 5-10% in Calgary, Edmonton, and Alberta's other major cities. That's not a small gap. That's families in Grande Prairie and across the Peace Region being approved on paper and left to figure it out on their own in real life.

We hear this constantly: parents who fought for months to get an eligibility decision, only to find there's no service provider within driving distance, no staff to hire, no support home available. Approval isn't the finish line here. It's barely the starting gate.

This is exactly why local advocacy matters. Provincial funding conversations happen in Edmonton and Calgary. The consequences of those decisions land hardest here.

If you're a rural Alberta family stuck in this gap, or you know one, you are not alone and this is not your fault. Reach out to Inclusion GP. We'll help you understand your options and push for what your family is owed.

Inclusive classrooms don't just support students with intellectual disabilities, they change how every kid in the room learns to see people.

Research backs it up: students in inclusive classrooms show higher empathy, stronger social skills, and greater tolerance than kids in segregated settings. And not one single study shows it holding anyone back academically.

This is what we mean when we say inclusion benefits everyone. Better humans start with classrooms where every kid belongs.

This weekend we hope many family checked out Grande Prairies Comic Con. We had an opportunity to sponsor a part of a room that allowed all guests to use if needing a moment of quiet or resetting before heading back out to enjoy the event.
It is things like this that we are proud to sponsor for our community and surrounding area.
