Central Newfoundland is making headlines! 📰

A recent visit through our Travel Media Program in partnership with Newfoundland & Labrador Tourism has resulted in a fantastic feature in Go World Travel Magazine, taking readers on a two-week road trip through Central Newfoundland.

Travel writer Tim Johnson shares experiences from across the region, from tagging blue sharks in Bonavista Bay and exploring Harbour Breton, to whitewater rafting with Rafting Newfoundland in Grand Falls-Windsor, discovering Botwood’s aviation history and murals, visiting the Canadian Glove Museum, and experiencing Come From Away Gander!

It’s a wonderful example of the value of travel media in sharing the people, places, stories, and experiences of Central Newfoundland with audiences around the world — and of the important role our tourism operators and communities play in making these visits memorable.

A great read, and some fantastic exposure for our region! 👏

A Central Newfoundland story, now part of Canada’s Heritage Minutes. ❤️

The newest Heritage Minute from Historica Canada takes us back to September 11, 2001, and the extraordinary response of Gander and surrounding communities as thousands of unexpected visitors arrived in Central Newfoundland.

For our tourism industry, it’s also a powerful reminder that some of the stories visitors remember most aren’t just about the places they see — they’re about the people they meet, the welcome they receive, and the connections they make along the way.

Twenty-five years later, that spirit of hospitality remains an important part of the story we share with visitors to Central Newfoundland.

Membership Monday Spotlight: The Isles Wooden Boat Builders

For generations, wooden boats have been an important part of life along Newfoundland and Labrador’s coast. In Twillingate, Isles Wooden Boat Builders Museum & Workshop is helping preserve that tradition and share the skills, stories, and craftsmanship behind it with visitors.

Through exhibits, demonstrations, and hands-on experiences, visitors can explore the region’s boat-building heritage, meet a local boat builder, and see traditional techniques in action.

By keeping these skills and stories alive, Isles Wooden Boat Builders offers visitors a meaningful connection to the people, traditions, and coastal heritage of Central Newfoundland.

📣 Free Training Opportunity!

Tourism employers and employees can now access eight FREE online training modules through the Belong Program, a national initiative from Tourism HR Canada, focused on building more inclusive, diverse, equitable, and accessible tourism workplaces.

Learning paths are available for frontline employees, managers and senior leaders, with practical training covering workplace inclusion and accessibility, recruitment and retention, leadership, and organizational planning.

The modules are online and can be completed at your own pace.

Each year, the Atlantic Canada Agreement on Tourism (ACAT) brings travel advisors and tour operators from key international markets to experience the region firsthand. In 2026, ACAT is supporting 32 FAM tours, up from 23 in 2025.

These immersive experiences help travel trade partners confidently recommend Atlantic Canada, leading to new travel bookings, tour packages and greater awareness of the region.

Through FAM tours, ACAT is helping to:
• Increase awareness of Atlantic Canada in key international markets.
• Educate travel advisors and tour operators about experiences across all four provinces.
• Strengthen relationships with the travel trade that influence where visitors choose to travel.
• Showcase how easy it is for travellers to explore multiple Atlantic Canadian provinces in a single trip.

When travel advisors experience Atlantic Canada for themselves, they become trusted ambassadors, helping inspire more visitors to explore the four provinces.

For more than 60 years, NLOA has worked to support outfitters across Newfoundland and Labrador, helping operators strengthen their businesses, build industry relationships, and share our province’s world-class wilderness experiences with visitors from around the globe.

Outfitting has deep roots in Newfoundland and Labrador’s tourism story, supporting rural communities while connecting visitors with our landscapes, traditions, and outdoor heritage. Here in Central Newfoundland, outfitters continue to play an important role in that story.

We’re very excited to welcome Erin Dee-Richard to the team!

Erin is joining us as our new Season Extension Coordinator on the Twillingate Seasonal Network Project.

Erin moved to Newfoundland in 2025 and brings with her a background as a museum professional, along with a fresh perspective on the province’s tourism industry. Her career has taken her to some pretty interesting places — she completed her Museum Studies Masters with the University of Leicester in England where she did her internship with the Royal Collections Trust housed in Windsor Castle. She has also worked at the Black Creek Pioneer Village in Toronto where she was the interpreter tinsmith!

Erin is excited to connect her experience in museums, cultural heritage, storytelling, and community engagement with the opportunities of Newfoundland and Labrador’s tourism sector.

In her new role, she’ll be focused on helping businesses, community partners, and regional stakeholders explore and develop ways to extend the tourism season and create consistent, quality experiences for visitors to our province.

And when she’s not working? Erin loves to travel and has visited 22 countries so far, which makes her especially excited to settle into her new home and discover more of what Newfoundland and Labrador has to offer.

We’re thrilled to have Erin on board and look forward to the work ahead as she helps others discover it, too!

Spotlight: Alexander Murray Hiking Trail

Winding through forest, barrens, streams and glacier-carved landscapes, this 8 km trail rewards the climb (more than 2,200 stairs!) with three waterfalls, five scenic lookouts, and sweeping views from Haypook Summit.

Behind it all is an incredible group of volunteers whose dedication keeps the trail maintained and ready to explore. Their work is a wonderful example of the community pride and volunteer spirit that helps strengthen tourism experiences throughout Central Newfoundland.
