Silva Bay Fishing Derby The official Silva Bay Fishing Derby. The Derby was started in 1991 by Andre Lemieux. In 1992, Bob Meyer took over organizing and has been involved since.

For the past 20 years all the proceeds has been going to the Nanaimo River Hatchery. Good Luck!

Here is a reminder of what the 2025 Silva Bay Derby Rules are:
* All fish must be caught within the boundaries. Icarus, Neck Point, The Fingers, Entrance Island, Thrasher and Porlier and up to three miles offshore Gabriola/Nanaimo are inbounds. Inside waters from Northumberland to Porlier are inbounds, except for D.F.O. closed areas.
* Derby Time - Saturday, September 6th - dawn till 6PM. Sunday, September 7th - dawn till 11:30AM.
* Weigh-in at Silva Bay Marina. All fish must be presented at the weigh-in station by 11:30AM on September 7th, 2025.
* No eviscarated (gutted salmon) will be eligible.
* Ties are decided in order of the first weighed.
* Prize ceremony to begin at approximately noon on Sunday, September 7th, 2025.
* All salmon must be cleaned immediately after the weigh-in. Weigh times: 10AM until 6PM on September 6th or 9AM until 11:30AM on September 7th, 2025.
* 1st prize for the largest Chinook, is a 9.9 Yamaha outboard and a minimum of 50 other prizes. Lowrance “HDS 12 Live” Sounder awarded by draw from all entrants.
* Derby tickets must be purchased prior to fishing and carried on your person.
* Failure to comply with Derby Rules and Regulations will result in immediate disqualification of all entrants in the boat.
* Ling prize will be awarded to the fish weighing closest to fifteen pounds without going over.
