Coming soon to Paisley Place on Gabriola:
The 24 new affordable homes are intended for households with LIMITED to MODEST income and ASSETS
The maximum before-tax household income cannot exceed:
• For studios and one-bedroom homes —$85,870
= $7,155 monthly income
• For two- and three-bedroom homes —$138,770
= $11,564 monthly income
The maximum combined asset value of the household cannot exceed $200,000

Apparently there are other criteria that will be considered during the selection process for the 24 applicants that will be chosen.
Still, it needs to be said that anyone bringing in almost 12K per month and sitting with up to $200K in assets has the means to get a mortgage and purchase their own home.
One has to ask why they would even be able to apply for this subsidized housing.
These maximum amounts seem far too high, and very much out of step. When considering how many Seniors are surviving only on their Pension income. And what about the folks living with Disabilities, or those receiving other forms of Govt. assistance. So many Gabriolans are really struggling.
In my humble opinion, there needs to be more discussion about providing safe housing for the genuinely LOW income residents.
