Keeping Our Community Safe with Project Lifesaver!

York Sunbury Search and Rescue (YSSR) is proud to offer Project Lifesaver, a vital program designed to support individuals with autism spectrum disorder or other diverse needs, as well as their caregivers.

Project Lifesaver uses a specialized, wearable wristband that allows caregivers to monitor a loved one’s location in the event of an emergency. If the wearer goes missing, our team can quickly track their location, helping to ensure a safe and efficient recovery.

For families and caregivers, Project Lifesaver provides reassurance and an additional layer of safety for those who may be at risk of wandering or becoming disoriented.

🚨 Successful Project Lifesaver Search! 🚨
If you were behind a slow-moving car full of people in orange this evening, that was us!

On Saturday evening, YSSR was contacted about a missing Project Lifesaver client wearing one of our tracking bracelets. Our Electronic Search Specialists and SAR Managers were quickly deployed to the subject’s last known location, working alongside Fredericton Police, while the rest of our team remained on standby.

By 10:25 p.m, three vehicles equipped with roof-mounted antennas were actively searching. Thanks to the relationships we build with our clients and our understanding of their history, we were able to focus on likely areas.

This time, our subject had made it farther than ever before, over 18 km from home. But with the right technology, training, and teamwork, we located them with 35 minutes of active searching.
There’s no doubt: this search would have taken much longer without Project Lifesaver. This program is only possible through the support of our community and the dedication of our volunteers who maintain and train for moments like this.
