🍎September is here at The Family Place! 🍂

A new month means more opportunities to play, learn, connect and grow together! Our September calendar is packed with welcoming drop-ins and activities for little ones and their grown-ups. 🤍

From Toddler Talk & Play and Preschool Literacy Explorers to movement, STEAM, creativity, sensory exploration and our cozy Nest & Connect days-there’s something happening throughout the week!

📸 Back-to-School Photo Sessions are also happening this month by registration, and Sundays remain reserved for birthday party bookings. 🎈

Small pieces can build BIG skills.

When little ones sit down with a puzzle, there’s a lot more happening than simply finding where each piece belongs.

They’re practicing problem-solving, strengthening fine motor skills, developing hand-eye coordination, learning patience and experiencing that little boost of confidence that comes from thinking, “I did it!”

Puzzles also give children the opportunity to try, make mistakes, adjust and try again - all important parts of learning and development.
And remember: we don’t always have to jump in and find the right piece for them. Giving children a little time to explore and work through the challenge helps build independence, persistence and confidence.

At The Family Place in Mount Albert, we believe children learn best through play, exploration and connection.
Our space gives little ones opportunities to play, learn, explore and grow at their own pace - while giving parents and caregivers a welcoming place to connect with their children and other families in the community.

🎒7 BACK-TO-SCHOOL TIPS! ✏️

Back-to-school season is exciting, but it can also bring BIG changes for little ones (and their grown-ups!).

Over the next few days, we’ll be sharing simple tips to help make the transition into preschool, kindergarten and a new school year a little smoother. 💛

Remember: children don’t need a “perfect” first day-they need support, predictability, connection and time to adjust.

📸🎒 BACK TO SCHOOL PHOTO SESSIONS! ✏️🍎

Capture the excitement of a brand-new school year with a quick and affordable Back to School Photo Session at The Family Place!

August 27 & September 3
5:00–7:30 PM
Only $25 per session

Each family will receive a 10-minute outdoor session with a professional photographer. Photos can be taken individually or with siblings, and we’ll have “First Day of School” chalkboard props available to make those milestone photos extra special. 📚✨
Whether they’re heading into their very first year of school or another exciting grade, it’s a sweet and simple way to capture the moment - without the first-day morning rush!

Discover the birds who share our neighbourhood 🐦
Let’s explore our backyard and dive into the fascinating world of local birds! Through active games and hands-on discovery, families will learn to recognize familiar bird calls, understand what birds need to survive, and build empathy for the wildlife around them. The program finishes with families making their own bird feeder to take home and support local birds.

We’re excited to welcome Charlotte McConvey, Registered Psychotherapist and Founder of The Listening House Psychotherapy & Counselling, to The Family Place’s Kindergarten Boot Camp! 💛
Starting Kindergarten is a big milestone-not just for children, but for parents too. Charlotte will share practical, compassionate strategies to help families navigate this transition with confidence.
During her session, she’ll cover:
