Call Directions Website

The Typhoon Legacy Society is a not-for-profit society run by experienced volunteers, and dedicated to the airworthy rebuild of Hawker Typhoon JP843.

Please follow along and support us if you can! The Typhoon Legacy Society and the rebuild of Hawker Typhoon JP843 has had two beginnings, one with Ian Slater in British Columbia Canada that started more than 20 years ago, and another that started with Roger Marley in the UK during the early 1990's. The Canadian dream of seeing an airworthy Typhoon started with the fascination of the aircraft's history and unique design. Understanding that the undertaking would be incredibly demanding, requiring drawings, skilled trades and an approved organisation as a backbone for the project even before work could begin, Ian trained for more than two decades as an Aircraft Maintenance Engineer specializing in sheet metal fabrication. The search for drawings was difficult, but bared fruit in 2009 with the discovery of volumes of "big Hawker" technical drawings. Roger Marley's project was being built the entire time, and came at just the right time to showcase the project to the dwindling numbers of Typhoon pilots and ground crew. Rogers project included mock-up components along with an amazing list of original Typhoon parts, some of which may be impossible to locate elsewhere. Early in 2015 the deal was made, and Typhoon JP843 came to Canada to join with the work Ian had done throughout his career. The project has a facility and equipment to help push through the next phases.................Stay tuned!

Thank you all very much for you patience, we are working hard on many fronts which are best for the project if done without social media.

I've just completed video with detail on a critical feature of the Napier Sabre that has been published on our subscriber channel. Are you a member yet? We would certainly appreciate your help!

Follow along in detail with the airworthy rebuild of Hawker Typhoon JP843.

We've recently had the guys from our sponsor E3d at the shop to do some scanning on fragile magnesium accessory drive cases from the Sabre IIA. And while they were on site, they were kind enough to scan two of the sleeves from our engine as well.

The Sabre has two different sleeves, 12 of each. These are essentially opposites, with the only difference being the port to trunnion orientation; top right and bottom left are the same, and top left and bottom right are the same.

At this time, we've not had any luck in locating the original engineering drawings for Sabre sleeves. Using the information gathered from this process will be able to combine known dimensional information with the scanned port profiles and orientation to create new data for potential future production.

We're up to something, but I can't tell you what it is yet!

I made a trip out to Alberta recently, and met with Karl from the Bomber Command Museum of Canada. We had an unfortunate breakdown south of the museum, but Karl stayed (very) late to ensure we got back on the road. The situation provided some extra time to see what they've been up to with the Hercules engines for the Halifax 57 project! Thank you very much Karl! https://www.facebook.com/groups/112232095483062/

James Donald inches flew Hawker Typhoon JP843 on the 6th, 7th and twice on the 8th of July 1944. Like so many, James was an RCAF pilot within 609 Sqn RAF, he is also the pilot who's detailed logbook notes helped us identify the correct markings for JP843, those being PR-K.
We are very fortunate to have the support of his family, and honored when we have a chance to show them our work in the shop. This past Friday I had the privilege to do just that, two of James' daughters Margot Inches (left) and Katherine Inches Grant, along with James' granddaughter Caroline Grant joined me in the shop to see what we've been working on.
These wonderful ladies can be seen here, holding a copy of the great print "Inches from Disaster", a print painted by Julien Lepelletier commissioned by the 609 Squadron Association in Belgium, and presented to them by the Typhoon Legacy Society. The print depicts a mission that James flew where he got a little bit too low!

Thank you very much for visiting with us!
