Macdonald Wood Park Society Volunteer steward group for Macdonald Wood and the Fran Johnson Sanctuary in Comox, B.C.

Macdonald Wood was established as a park in April, 1996, the result of a broad community effort to protect a unique waterfront forest of 3.6 ha. The Macdonald Wood Park Society is the park’s volunteer steward group, involved with the removal of invasive species and new plantings that respect the forest’s natural succession. MWPS also serves as stewards of the nearby Fran Johnson Wildlife Sanctuary, a property that was gifted to MWPS and secured with covenants held by Comox Valley Land Trust. Macdonald Wood Park Society recognizes the ongoing commitment of its 600 members and many supporters to protect the ten acres of older second-growth forest, enjoyed by so many valley residents and visitors. The park property was purchased by MWPS, the Town of Comox, and the province, after a long and determined effort.

Please keep your eyes open for Stud muffin the scared Turkey.

UPDATE: HE HAS BEEN FOUND AND IS SAFE BACK INSIDE HOF!

Thanks to everyone who interacted with our posts and the support. 🦃❤️

🚨 MISSING: HELP US FIND OUR TURKEY 🚨

Our beloved turkey Stud Muffin managed to wander out of the hands on farm and we have not been able to locate him for an hour.

Our Farm team is actively searching and aware of the situation, but as he is scared and hiding, any information would be helpful.

📍LAST SEEN: Within Filberg Park. He may have gotten disoriented and left the park either by the road or beach. Please keep an eye out for him.

❗HOW YOU CAN HELP: If you spot our turkey, please DO NOT approach him. He is very scared right now and we do not want him venturing farther.

📞REPORT SIGHTINGS: If you see Stud, keep him within your line of sight from a safe distance and immediately call or text either 250-207-3276 or 250-703-1336 with your exact location and relevant location so we can come and pick him up.

We appreciate all the support and only want to bring him back safe.

🌲 A Big Thank You to Our Town Crew! 🌲

We’d like to send a huge thank you to the Town of Comox Parks and Public Works staff for their quick response after a tree came down across the road in Macdonald Wood Park on Tuesday. Their prompt action ensured the road was cleared quickly and the area remained safe for everyone enjoying the park.

If you ever notice a tree or large branch blocking a road, trail, or creating a safety concern in our park, please report it to the Town of Comox Public Works Yard so it can be addressed as soon as possible.

We are fortunate to have such dedicated crews working behind the scenes to keep our parks, roads, and public spaces safe and accessible. Thank you for all that you do!
