This week, our station focused its training on chartwork, and based on members' uptake, we will hold another session next week for those who couldn't make it this week. Skills are perishable, which is why at RCMSAR Station 60, we focus on a diverse training plan to ensure we use our skills regularly and don't lose them.

There are no words that can fully capture the weight of this loss. Your teammates were part of a community built on courage, selflessness, and an unwavering commitment to saving lives on the water. They stood the watch when others could not, and their dedication to the safety of those on the water will never be forgotten.

As fellow SAR volunteers, we understand the bond that forms among crew members — the trust, the shared purpose, and the quiet understanding that comes with answering the call, day or night. The loss of two such individuals is felt far beyond your station; it resonates across all of us who serve.

Please know that you are not alone in this. We stand with you in grief, in remembrance, and in honouring their service. Their legacy lives on in every life saved, every mission undertaken, and in the strength of the community they helped build.

Our thoughts are with their families, your crew, and all those whose lives they touched.

Our 46 units are strategically located along the NSW coastline, on Lord Howe Island and inland on the Alpine Lakes and Murray River.

🌊 A special message for National Volunteer Week 2026. 🇨🇦
This week, we are throwing a well-deserved spotlight on the incredible men and women of RCM•SAR Station 60 Comox. The heroic graphic featured here, showing our rescue vessel and crew, represents the standard of excellence they bring to every single mission.
What does it take to serve our community? To our volunteers, you don't just "show up." You are professionals who risk your lives, and your dedication is unparalleled.

Every year, you commit to a relentless schedule:
📅 120+ hours ON CALL per month per volunteer (24/7/365).
🚤 Intensive training at least once a month for each volunteer (contributing to a massive 500 hours of station training this past year!).
🔧 Dozens of hours spent on boat maintenance—our crew does the work themselves to ensure that when we are called out, we are ready for the mission.
🌊 And that’s all before the phone rings for a real-world call on the water.

Your sacrifice means lives are saved, families are reunited, and our waters are a safer place.

We also want to salute all the other dedicated volunteers in Comox, the Comox Valley, and across the globe. To the firefighters, paramedics, search and rescue personnel from other stations, and every community helper: Thank you. We are stronger together.

Happy national volunteer week 2026
We are so lucky to have Roch with us at RCM SAR 60 Comox 😎

Roch joined Royal Canadian Marine Search and Rescue - Station 60 Comox nearly 13 years ago and became a coxswain in 2017, taking on a leadership role in on-water operations and crew safety. He's also the station operations assistant and the vessel & equipment standards manager.

Since then, he has accumulated over 1,800 hours of sea time and has been on 124 rescue missions—bringing experience, leadership, and commitment to every call. Thank you Roch.

For those who may not know, Royal Canadian Marine Search and Rescue (RCMSAR) stations, like ours here in Comox, are volunteer-run, supported by not-for-profit societies. Our supporting society is the Comox Valley Marine Search and Rescue Society.
