Decoration Days - June is the month that many of our local cemeteries have their annual Decoration Day. Eddystone Church Decoration Day is this Sunday, June 21st

This is a tradition that goes back generations. I remember as a small child picking flowers with my Mom and my sisters from Mom's amazing garden - peonies, iris, roses (among others). These would be put in buckets, and then early Sunday morning, many other families would come with flowers from their garden to the cemetery. The ladies would make bouquets, and the kids would select many of the older graves to put our bouquets on. The cemetery always looked so beautiful by the end of the day.

This is a tradition I am proud to continue with my family today, with planters, bouquets and rose bowls on the graves of loved ones. My ancestors came to this area pre-1850, so there are many generations, and many graves to decorate.

I hope you visit the grave of an ancestor or loved one soon, and let them know they are not forgotten.

Celebrate those who came before with our Decoration Day service on Sunday, June 21st.
