Thank you so much to Biz and the team for speaking at our first annual Developing Accessibility Gala.

Hazen ‘Biz’ Ellwood is the Chair of Unsprawling, a community organization focused on creating platforms for diverse perspectives and initiatives that change how Calgarians engage with urban activism.

Biz spoke on the importance of Calgarians knowing more about their city, each other, and the processes that shape it, pressing that cities have the ability to create something for everyone, but that this can only be accomplished when they are created by everyone. Biz spoke, poetically, on how we can create a city that is vibrant and accessible to our whole community when we take the thoughts and opinions of the people who need and use these spaces.

Thank you so much for brining such valuable insight to our event. We are so grateful for you support and to work alongside such a wonderful organization like .

Thank you to Andrea van Vugt for speaking at the Developing Accessibility Gala — Andrea is a member of the Advisory Committee on Accessibility for the City of Calgary. The Advisory Committee on Accessibility offers expert advice to the City Council and Administration on matters related to accessibility and disability, collaborating with citizens, the community, and the City of Calgary to address important issues concerning accessibility.

We are incredibly proud to have Andrea’s perspective at this important event. Andrea brought up the phrase “nothing about us, without us” — an important slogan that pushes decision makers to include people with disabilities in the decisions that affect them. Too often, the people who need the support are left out of the conversation, resulting in decisions being made that do not consider the lived experience of the people they are trying to help.

This is one of the main goals of the Developing Accessibility Gala: to bring together perspectives and decision makers across sectors to see how we can better work together to improve the quality of living for everyone.

Thank you to Andrea for speaking at our event. We are so grateful for your address and for being a partner in making accessibility more accessible.

Thank you to everyone who came out to support at the first annual Developing Accessibility Gala!

This evening was a special moment for our organization. Accessibility in our built environment affects us all, especially those living with neuropathy. Reduced mobility, troubles walking, standing, and with balance, up to losing the ability to walk, see, or move are common issues for those suffering from neuropathy.

When are spaces are designed with accessibility at the core, and with cross-sector collaboration, we create the opportunity for everyone to fully participate in our spaces, and communities.

A deep thank you to .productions and our friends at Astra Group for sponsoring this fabulous video of the event for us!

Thank you to for speaking at the Developing Accessibility Gala — Sonia brought a unique perspective to the evening, speaking on how creating accessible environments is really building the spaces our future selfs may need.

At any given moment, we are one injury, or one diagnosis, away from needing accessibility in the spaces we live, work, and play in. When design considers the live experience, we expand solutions that allow people fully participate in their communities.

Sonia is the CEO of , a holistic, plant based, wellness brand and the Formulate for Naturemary Bio Pharma, a biotech company working to reengineer modern medicine through plant-derived technologies. Her background in holistic medicine and technology brings unique insight into how our environment impacts wellbeing.

Thank you so much to Sonia for presenting at our event. We are so grateful for your address and for being a partner in building awareness for neuropathy!

Thank you to the Provincial Government for recognizing us and the Developing Accessibility Gala — we are so grateful for the support as we work to bring more awareness to neuropathy and those living with it and how leaders in design, development, policy, and community advocacy can create a better quality of life for those who need accessibility in the spaces we live, gather, work, and play in.

Thank you so much to Dr. Chika Daniels for speaking on behalf of the Office of the Premier of Alberta.

Dr. Daniels’ doctoral specialization in (Social) Housing & Policy, along with her role as part of the Executive Council for the Premier of Alberta, brought a unique intersection of policy and impact — Dr. Daniels shared on how accessibility is often reduced to larger doorways, hallways, and ramps, but accessibility is deeper than those metrics; it’s really about dignity.

Dr. Daniels spoke on the power of bringing together perspectives from different sectors like designers, developers, policy makers, and community advocates — the people who shape the environment where we live, gather, work, and play — because this is where deeply impactful solutions are found; when sectors work together to bring as much impact as possible to the people who need it most.

In addition to her address, Dr. Daniels presented us with a message from the Premier, recognizing the impact and importance of raising awareness around accessibility in design, development, funding, and policy in Calgary’s built spaces and bringing more attention to those living with Neuopathy.

Thank you to Dr. Chika Daniels for presenting this address to our organization and being an important part of the first annual Developing Accessibility Gala.
