Leaving abuse is a major step. Rebuilding after abuse takes time.

When a space opened in a second-stage shelter, Lianne could imagine a safe place for her family, with time to plan next steps.

A second-stage shelter offers safe, longer-term housing and support after leaving abuse. It gives families time to stabilize, heal, rebuild normalcy and plan for what comes next.

🤠 Stampede Spirit at Radiance!
With support from OnSite I.T. and Righteous Gelato, we brought the excitement of the Calgary Stampede to our shelter—and celebrated with our biggest turnout yet!

OnSite IT generously provided and cooked a delicious pancake breakfast, while Righteous Gelato's donated Sorbetto Bars were a refreshing treat that disappeared quickly!

💛 Thank you to OnSite IT, Righteous Gelato, Elder Cheryle Chagnon-Greyeyes and all the wonderful volunteers who made the morning possible. Together, you gave families an opportunity to participate in a Calgary tradition and create happy memories together.

Radiance helps parents and children build stronger, healthier relationships.

Our approach looks beyond behaviour to understand the emotions and need underneath it, while helping parents respond in ways that support connection and regulation.

Parents are guided to notice their child’s emotions, reflect on their own reactions, and stay steady during stressful times.

Those small shifts can make a difference.

Over time, they help children heal and build a stronger connection between parent and child.

Children can be deeply affected by family violence, even when they are not physically hurt.

Living with violence can change how a child handles stress, builds trust, pays attention, and manages big feelings.

What may look like “behaviour” is often a child’s way of coping with an unsafe environment.

With the right support, and safe, steady relationships, healing is possible. 💛

Today, we recognize National Indigenous Peoples Day and celebrate the diverse cultures, languages, histories, and contributions of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis Peoples across Canada.

At Radiance, we’re committed to deepening our understanding and strengthening our ability to provide culturally respectful, safe, and responsive support to the families we serve. We know this work requires humility, relationship-building and ongoing education. As we recognize this important day, we remain committed to listening, learning, and advancing cultural supports in ways that honour Indigenous voices, knowledge, and lived experiences.

We are especially grateful for the guidance and presence of our local Elder who has supported our community. A recent storytelling and sharing event was met with an incredible turnout. We are thankful for the wisdom, care, and connection she continues to bring.

Right now, our shelter is running low on a few items that help women and families feel safe, comfortable, and cared for as they rebuild their lives. In particular, we are in need of bedding sets to set up our suites for incoming families.

A warm blanket, a fresh start to the day, or the ability to prepare a simple meal can mean more than you might imagine.

These small comforts create stability, dignity, and a sense of normalcy during an incredibly difficult time.
