Have you seen the safe new page wire fencing going up around the property??
Looks great and safe for the dogs.
The last bit needs to be finished. Thursday June 4th at 6 pm if you can spare some time, come out to club land and offer a helping hand. No experience with fencing needed. Great way to get some volunteer hours in.

Wednesday May 27 Water Doubles hunt / WC text exposure
For members only - no guests.

Weather permitting, we will be doing double water retrieves. The dog should be able to walk off leash from the holding blind, complete water double marks ( SH, WCI/X) from 40-80 yds, and deliver to hand. Honouring will occur ( though honouring dogs may be on leash for the honour). We will be using Dokkens or bumpers that night. Gunners may be visible, or retired depending on the mark. There is a maximum of 15 dogs for water nights.

We will probably run west to east as there is a jump into the water as the pond is still filling up. So parking on the top back part. However, that could change depending on weather and water level.

Meet at 5:30 to help set up, with first dog hopefully on the line at 6 pm. If you are arriving late ( say 7 pm ish) please let me know so we can put you later on the running order. Handlers are expected to help with set up, running the evening, and also take down. If you need to leave early please let me know so we will put you earlier in running order.

Please bring your whistle, a leash, a duck call, and depending on the weather, a towel or water to rinse your dog. Dogs must be on leash until the final holding blind, and are only off leash when working.

Volunteers, who are not running a dog, are always welcome and will receive volunteer hours.

Please register by Monday 9 pm. Register with Susan at [email protected]

May 13 doubles land marks - SH, WCI - exposure practice

For members only - no guests. Only Dokkens and / or bumpers will be used.

Double land marks will be set up at about 60-80 yds. There will be decoys in between the marks, and yes, mojo will be running. There will be honouring, and you will be carrying a “gun”. If your dog does not do doubles, please understand no singles will be thrown. Please make sure you bring your duck call and whistles. You will be calling birds for the working dog. And gunners will not retire.

You can use e-collars, training collars that fit snuggly, or dog can run naked. As this is SH WCI level, you should be able to walk your dog from the holding blind to the line leash free, and then run your dog hands free, and then walk to the honor area, and honour without a leash. However, you must have a leash on you and your dog is leashed except when working. If your dog is not ready, you can use your leash. You also may be asked to leash your dog for the honour.

Set up around 5:30 pm, first dog around 6 pm. There will be a test dog, and judges briefing. We should get two run throughs in.
You will be required to help set up, strike and run the event. Volunteers ( who do not run a dog) will earn hours towards the club volunteer hours, and are always welcome.

We will be running on the top back by the first turn south. Parking in the area just to the west of the road.

There will be a maximum of 20 dogs ( including the test dog). Once the limit is reached, it is reached. The following week will have a limit of 15 dogs ( water) and you can sign up for that night without any restrictions ( except the maximum number of dogs). ( in other words, each night is an independent event).

Want to volunteer, please email Susan at [email protected] and indicate what you would like to do.

Want to run your dog(s), please email Susan at [email protected] to register.

You will receive an email as soon as I receive your email. Please respond before 11:59 pm Monday.

RESULTS from our Seven Singles.

We had as great turnout with a total of 28 dogs for the day. All dogs got four marks and then the cuts began.

We also held our Calcutta after the 3rd mark. It was thrilling to see the bidding go well.

We had 10 dogs running the 7th and final mark (some new handler/dogs and some previous finalists).

The final 10 were:
Hugh with Brodie
Meryle with Gabe
Kathie with Spirit
Janice V with Archer
Sheri with Rayne
Linda Z with Bella
Samantha with Bowie
Dee with Fern
Heather with Bishop
Angela with Whiskey

The runner up was Sheri and Rayne

And the winner was Dee with Fern.

and then of course the Winner of the Calcutta was "me".

I know it was a long day but big thank you to everyone that made this another great event.

May 6 Single Land Marks only WC/JH exposure practice
For members only - no guests. I promise we will use duck dokkens and not goose dokkens…

Set up around 5:30 pm, first dog in the 4th holding blind around 6 pm with a briefing and judges briefing, and test dog. You will be required to help with set up, running the event, and take down. We will be on the top back - parking on the parking area on the top by the water. If you are arriving after we start, please turn the corner by the mounds, and stop. A Marshall will wave you through once the working dog is secure. We usually get two run throughs and are packed up around 9 pm. If you are coming late or need to leave early, please let me know. Volunteers ( not running a dog) are always welcome and hours count towards volunteer hours for the club.

This night the land marks will be at 50 yd, but you can run them from 40 yd or 30 yd. Ideally your dog should be able to retrieve at least 40 yd and return crisply back to you. Delivery to hand is useful. We will be using dokkens ( fake foam birds) or large plastic bumpers, but have skinny plastic bumpers as well. Gunners will be visible and will not retire. It will be duck call, toss, gun shot.

There will be four holding blinds, and we will be doing introduction to decoys on the way to the last holding blind. There will be no decoys from the last holding blind to the line, and no decoys in the field.

You can use e- collars, training collars that fit snuggly ( we don’t want them to snag on anything). Yes, you may hold your dog at the line, but I encourage you to go “hands free”. At the line, there will be a place board / mat that you can choose to use or not.

Please bring: your dog, your leash ( all dogs must be on lead except when working), your whistle, a duck call. I encourage you the wear camo, or dark clothing, and come prepared for Alberta’s three seasons. Lots of water as it could be hot. I highly recommend a small training note book. Please use a kennel in your car if you are going to have windows open or / and your back open.

Please reply by 9:00 pm Monday night to Susan at [email protected]. You will receive an email when I get your entry. Maximum dogs for land dogs is 20 teams.

Register by emailing [email protected] No registrations by facebook.
