Words matter. Today proved it. 💬💛

Words Matter Day is a time to reflect on how what we say — and how we say it — shapes our communities every single day.

PREVNet is proud to recognize Words Matter Day alongside and communities across the country.

May 5th is Red Dress Day - National Day of Awareness for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and Two-Spirit People.

Today we express solidarity with Indigenous families and communities mourning the loss of loved ones and fighting for a safer future. We are reminded of our responsibility to take action to combat racism and colonialism in all forms.

Today is Trans Day of Visibility 🏳️‍⚧️

Today, PREVNet celebrates gender diversity and honours the activism and accomplishments of trans and non-binary people nationally and internationally.

PREVNet stands against transphobia and discrimination. This is an important time for allies to re-commit to standing against anti-trans hate. Together, we can build a future where trans people feel safe to be their authentic selves.

For Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month, we’re sharing resources to help prevent and respond to teen dating violence.

Parents and caregivers can play an important role in helping their teen navigate the complexities of dating violence. However, studies suggest that parents may struggle to know what to say or where to look for information or support when they find out that their teen is experiencing violence in their relationship.

In 2025, PREVNet and HOPELab conducted a study with 245 parents and caregivers across Canada with a child who had experienced dating violence. The aim was to better understand these parents’ experiences and explore how to better support their needs. Three new resources were created based on the needs identified in this study.

Check out these new resources for parents using the links shared in this post, or view our entire resource library at www.prevnet.ca.

February 25th is Pink Shirt Day! 👚

This is a day to raise awareness about bullying and its impacts on school-aged youth.

Bullying is rooted in power imbalances in our societies and institutions. Certain youth are given more access to power due to the privileges they enjoy in larger society, and may use this power to harm those with less power. For example, when boys are bullied for wearing pink shirts, this reflects systems of power rooted in heterosexism and homophobia. But, when youth use their social power in positive ways - like speaking out against these harmful systems and standing up when they witness bullying- they can make meaningful change.

We can all play a role in helping to prevent and address bullying. Check out the resources linked in this post and visit www.prevnet.ca for more information.

For Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month, we’re sharing resources to promote healthier youth relationships.

It’s normal for teens to have questions as they navigate choices around relationships, sexuality, and substance use. As caring adults, we can support them to make healthy relationship decisions by providing information about what consent is and how it’s communicated, and answering questions without judgement.

PREVNet’s new fact sheet was created to help caregivers, educators, and service providers answer questions teens may have about the use of alcohol/drugs and sexual activity, from a legal perspective.

February is Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month, and we are sharing resources to promote healthier youth relationships. 📢

On the PREVNet podcast, we talk a lot about innovative programs and curriculums in teen dating violence prevention. However, we know that you can have the most thorough and evidence-based curriculum out there, and unless you can find a way to make it feel fun, accessible, and relevant to the youth you’re working with. . . It won’t go far. 🤔

In January, we interviewed Pénélope Allard-Cobetto, who coordinates the , originating out of Quebec. Pénélope recently published a paper based on qualitative interviews with youth in the program about their experiences. In our interview, she shared recommendations about how to make healthy relationship/teen dating violence prevention programming fresh and engaging, even when the subject matter is heavy. ✅

Our hearts are with the victims of the tragic attack in Tumbler Ridge yesterday, along with their families and community members. When young people’s lives are lost to violence, the resulting sense of grief, loss, and confusion is often far-reaching.

We are sharing some resources to support those coping in the aftermath of this tragedy.

February is Black History Month.

This is a time to honour the achievements, continuity, and resistance of Black people, communities, and movements in Canada.

At PREVNet, we are reflecting on the leadership of Black artists, scholars, and activists in gender-based violence prevention and awareness.

This month is also a reminder of our shared responsibility to combat anti-Black racism and oppression, and the negative impacts of these systems on youth.
