On October 22, LDAA is leading Alberta’s first Great Read Along as part of a national initiative to reach 6 million minutes of reading in one day — and right here in Alberta, we’re aiming for 10,000 minutes! 💙

Families, classrooms, schools and communities across the province can take part. Choose 15, 30, 45 or 60 minutes and read anywhere you love — at home, in class, at the library or curled up with your favourite book.

Together, we’re reading for a cause: to build understanding, spark conversation and champion young people who learn differently.

🎓 Meet Our 2026 Siobhan Isabella Reid Memorial Scholarship Recipients!

LDAA is proud to celebrate Michelle Britt and Catherine Lowe, this year’s recipients of the Siobhan Isabella Reid Memorial Scholarship. 💙

Both Michelle and Catherine demonstrate a deep commitment to creating more inclusive, supportive learning environments — bringing their own experiences, expertise and passion to the work they do.

🍎 Michelle Britt is an experienced educator, Assistant Principal and Inclusion Lead who has spent 19 years with Living Waters schools. Currently completing graduate studies in Structured Literacy and Reading Science, Michelle is passionate about creating learning environments where every child’s unique strengths and potential are recognized.

🧠 Catherine Lowe is a PhD candidate in School and Applied Child Psychology at the University of Calgary. Drawing from her own experience as a learner with ADHD, Catherine’s clinical work and research focus on improving how children, youth and adults with learning disabilities and ADHD are identified, understood and supported.

Their stories are different, but they share an important belief: with the right support, understanding and opportunities, learners can thrive.
