Today is International Day of the Girl.

Canada helped establish this day through a resolution adopted by the United Nations General Assembly in 2011, recognizing the rights of girls and the barriers that continue to limit their opportunities.

At Calgary Adapted Hub powered by Jumpstart, we know that girls with disabilities can face added barriers to accessing sport, recreation, and physical activity.

Every girl deserves opportunities to move, play, participate, lead, and belong.

When we listen to girls, work alongside families and communities, and intentionally remove barriers, we create more opportunities for girls to participate in ways that are meaningful to them.

Today, and every day, let’s keep building sport and recreation spaces where all girls have the opportunity to thrive.

As co-founder of Canadian Tire Jumpstart Charities, Martha has helped open doors for children to experience the confidence, connection and joy that sport can bring. Her commitment to removing financial barriers and championing accessible play spaces and inclusive sport reflects a belief at the heart of CAH’s work: children and youth of all abilities deserve opportunities to participate and belong.

We are so excited to announce our first Volt Hockey Try It Day in Central Alberta! This is a great event to come out and try out the sport before registering for our season this fall! It is also a great opportunity to come watch and learn from our Volt Hockey development team as they practice on location.

Date: October 3rd
Time: 12:00 - 1:00 (to try the sport). Our development team will be practicing before and after; you are welcome to come watch.
Location: Penhold Waskasoo Middle School (1C Waskasoo Ave Penhold)
Cost: Free
