Our Hamilton community screening event was an important step in expanding access to prostate cancer screening beyond the GTA.

In collaboration with Hamilton Urban Core Community Health Centre, Dynacare, UHN Princess Margaret Cancer Centre and community partners, we brought free PSA blood testing directly into the community, giving men an opportunity to learn more about prostate health, get screened, and connect with additional health and wellness resources.

This is what community-based screening can look like: bringing services closer to where people live, building trusted partnerships, and creating more opportunities for early detection.

We are grateful to our funders for supporting this expansion and helping make these community-based screening opportunities possible.

KNOWLEDGE TO ACTION: Addressing Breast & Prostate Cancer in Black Communities

On Saturday, October 17, The Olive Branch of Hope and The Walnut Foundation are joining forces for an important community conference focused on the impact of breast and prostate cancer in Black communities.

September is Prostate Cancer Awareness Month, and we return with our monthly members meeting with a special feature presentation featuring Kem Ogoti, Registered Pharmacist for a special session “Ask a Pharmacist: “Medications, Your Health, and Questions You Should Be Asking”.

Kem Ogoti is an Ontario-licensed pharmacist with experience across community pharmacy, specialty pharmacy, and formulary management. She currently serves as Vice Chair of the Research Committee for the Black Pharmacy Professionals of Canada (BPPC).

Here’s another chance to take a proactive step for your prostate health.

Black men are 76% more likely to be diagnosed with prostate cancer and 2.2 times more likely to die from the disease. Prostate cancer is often slow-growing and can be highly treatable when detected early, making early detection especially important.

Thank you to everyone who walked, donated, volunteered, sponsored, and supported our 12th Annual Walk the Path Walkathon.

Together, we’re raising awareness, advancing health equity, and improving outcomes for Black communities facing prostate cancer.

This milestone reflects the growing support behind a movement dedicated to improving prostate cancer awareness, early detection, and access to care for Black men and their families. While the Walkathon has already surpassed last year’s fundraising total, donations remain open through August 30 as The Walnut Foundation continues toward its goal of raising $150,000.

Together, survivors, families, healthcare professionals, advocates, sponsors, and civic leaders came together with a shared commitment to advancing prostate cancer awareness, early detection, and equitable access to care
