Centre for Canadian-Assyrian Relations CCAR

Centre for Canadian-Assyrian Relations CCAR The Centre for Canadian-Assyrian Relations (CCAR) mission is to help build bridges amongst the Assyrian and Canadian communities.

The Centre for Canadian-Assyrian Relations (CCAR) is a charitable organization based in Greater Toronto Area. Our mission is to help build bridges amongst the Assyrian and Canadian communities by sharing our culture with the Canadian public, while working in cooperation with Canadians to share the Canadian way of life to the Assyrian community. Our goal is to be the primary resource used between b

oth communities with regards to Assyrian affairs in Canada. We hope to achieve our goal by working side by side with our fellow Canadians and participating in all facets of Canadian culture including politics, education, and leisure. While CCAR understands and acknowledges the many problems and crises affecting the Assyrian communities throughout the Middle East and abroad, our sole purpose is to assist those that have immigrated and are now living in Canada. As a community, the Assyrians have countless other organizations which are dedicated to the causes in the Middle East. We believe, when we help establish our Assyrians in Canada, then they in turn are better able to assist those in need elsewhere. Our work however, depends on your support. Your participation at our various events, your kind and generous donations to our organization, and your dedication to ensuring a bright future for Assyrians in Canada are all critical for our success. Please sign up today to receive more information on how you can join and be a part of this amazing new journey as we grow together as a community. "The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago; the second best time is today"

Sincerely,

Umta Shino
President, Centre for Canadian-Assyrian Relations

One last reminder for the Canada 2026 Census!

Melissa Farhad holds a Bachelors Degree in International Business and a Masters Degree in Management, and has been involved with CCAR since its inception. She started out as a dedicated volunteer and was elected to the executive board in 2018, becoming the Vice - President in 2020.
Melissa was honored to be voted into the role of the President of CCAR in 2022 and has been re-elected in July 2025.

Being a proud Assyrian, Melissa has always made a point of seeking out, and passionately supporting, any local Assyrian organizations. While growing up in Germany, she was an active member of the ABDG Verein (Assyrian community group) in Wiesbaden. After relocating to Canada, Hamilton in 2009 she continued her volunteerism by fundraising for and supporting a number of local Assyrian run events and programs. Seeing a need for an organization that would preserve and promote Assyrian heritage and culture in Hamilton, she helped found the Bet Nahrain Assyrian Heritage Centre in 2015, and is still an active board member.
Melissa takes great pride in being Assyrian, and holds dear our traditions, both ancient and modern, and the collective stories that tie us together as a nation, and tell of our resilience and hope. She feels blessed and honored that she gets to work alongside equally devoted and passionate individuals in helping Assyrians take their place and find their voice in Canada.
