Poppy Campaign

24-October, 2026 marks the first day of the Royal Canadian Legion Poppy Campaign, from that date until Remembrance Day we wear a poppy as a visual pledge to never forget those who served and sacrificed.

The red flower also is the symbol of the Legion's Poppy Campaign, raising funds to support Veterans and their families in need.

285 Cadets will be assisting the Royal Canadian Legion, Antigonish with their Poppy Campaign 07-Nov at various locations around town.

If you see us, feel free to stop and say hi, or share a story of a loved one that you will be wearing a Poppy for this November.

To the staff, cadets and parents of the cadets of 285 RCACC, please take a moment to remember those who were hurt or lost their lives to the incident at CFB Wainwright. I do not know what happened but I can assure you the families of those injured, the families of those who lost their lives and the members of the CAF across Canada are hurting.

Let us remember them.

A recap of our fun-filled, muddy weekend! 🌧️🪵🔥

Our cadets had an absolutely amazing FTX weekend packed with fun, learning, teamwork, and—of course—LOTS of mud! 😂

Throughout the weekend, they learned some awesome outdoor skills, including how to build shelters, start and maintain fires, use GPS, sharpen knives safely, and set up and take down tents. They put their skills to the test, worked together as a team, and definitely weren’t afraid to get their hands dirty!

And let’s not forget all of the wonderful food that kept everyone fueled and ready for the next challenge! 🍳🥪🍲

There were plenty of laughs, new skills learned, challenges conquered, and memories made with new friends. And by the end of it all, there was no shortage of muddy boots, muddy clothes, and very muddy cadets! 😂🤎

A huge shoutout to all of our cadets for their hard work, enthusiasm, and willingness to jump into every activity—even when it meant getting completely covered in mud! We’re so proud of everything they accomplished this weekend. ❤️

With Cadet Day being celebrated in Nova Scotia yesterday, we thought why not highlight what our 285 cadets have been up to!

This weekend Sgt MacGillivary and Sgt Swinkels spent time exploring Lake Charlotte on their Gold Star Expedition, where they practiced acting as team leaders and instructors. The Gold Star Expedition involves hands-on adventure training like flatwater canoeing and hiking.

This will unlock the opportunity to act as a support cadet for future local expeditions, and they will now be able to apply to participate in a regional expedition!

Many of our other cadets spent the weekend in Pictou on our joint Field Training Exercise (FTX) with 219 RCACC from New Glasgow.

An FTX is an overnight, hands-on outdoor training weekend where cadets apply wilderness survival, navigation, and leadership skills in a natural environment.

More photos of the FTX (and hopefully also the Gold Star Expedition) to follow in the coming days!

A few weeks back some our band cadets joined with other cadets from Antigonish, New Glasgow and Truro to perform at the First Annual Ship Hector Beat Retreat in Pictou.
