It is with profound sadness and the heaviest of hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved BOTG-AB Chaplin, Hillar Alkok, after a lifetime of dedicated service to his community.
Hillar faithfully served our community with unwavering compassion and grace, answering the call to care for others when they needed it most, and touching countless lives with his uplifting presence and kindness. His work with BOTG-AB saw him provide guidance, a listening ear, and spiritual counsel to our volunteers and clients alike. His spiritual guidance provided comfort to countless people in their darkest hours, and we are truly grateful for the dedication Hillar poured into his work at BOTG-AB and with the other agencies he served throughout his career.
Hillar was a police chaplain with the Toronto Police Service for many years and dedicated significant time to training police chaplains in Ukraine. He brought that same dedication, warmth, and care to our members and clients here in Alberta, including through community engagement at our outreach events and hosting barbecues to show his appreciation for the work law enforcement does.
It has been a privilege for us to have Hillar as part of the BOTG family, and an honour to serve the first responder and military communities along side him. He will be greatly missed by all who had the pleasure to be graced with his presence.
Our thoughts are with his family, his colleagues, his congregation, and the many people he served throughout his ministry. We ask that you keep Hillar’s family and loved ones in your thoughts and prayers as they grieve this devastating loss.
If you are in need of chaplaincy services as we navigate the future without Hillar, please email [email protected] and you will be connected with our Ontario branch.
Hillar, you will live on in all the lives you touched, and your service and sacrifice will never be forgotten. Rest in eternal peace, brother. We will take it from here. 💙
