Some big news from Yea Community House which we are super excited about. A fantastic community asset which will be used in a variety of ways. Well done to Cass, Nat, Carlie and Jim for the vision and seeing this through to completion in the very near future. And definitely making an appearance at our 2026/27 YCN season and beyond ❤️
🚐✨ SHE'S ALMOST READY! ✨🚐
After well over a year of planning, designing, fundraising and countless volunteer hours, our Emergency Response Food Van is nearly ready to hit the road!
This project began with a vision: to create a mobile kitchen that could support our community when it needs it most. Thanks to a successful grant application to AusNet by Cass, that vision became a reality. We are incredibly grateful for the funding that got this project off the ground and for Cass's hard work in securing it.
Since then, Jim has taken the lead on making sure the van meets the needs of our community. From the layout and functionality through to the finer details, he has carefully designed exactly what was needed. Jim and Dale have also worked together to create the wrap, colours and branding that will make the van instantly recognisable wherever she goes.
A huge thank you also goes to Spitfire Vintage Caravans, who have been bringing the build to life and helping turn our ideas into something truly special.
What makes this project even more remarkable is that so much of it has been powered by volunteers. The planning, design decisions, project management and countless hours behind the scenes have all been driven by people who care deeply about our community.
So, what will the van do?
Her most important role will be responding during emergencies, particularly when power outages impact our community. She will provide a way for us to support residents with food and connection during challenging times.
But when she isn't responding to emergencies, she'll be out and about earning her keep! You'll see her at community events such as the Yea Market, Yea Cruise Night and other local gatherings. She'll also play a key role in creating community meals and bringing people together around good food.
As we move closer to launch, we'll be looking to build a team of volunteers to help bring this exciting project to life. There will be a range of roles available, including:
🔹 Towing the van
🔹 Setting up and packing down
🔹 Food preparation
🔹 Cooking community meals
🔹 Serving customers at events
🔹 Supporting emergency response activities
We know volunteer fatigue is a challenge facing many communities, including our own. But projects like this show what can happen when people contribute what they can, when they can. No contribution is too small, and every helping hand strengthens our community.
We can't wait to share the finished van with you all. Keep an eye on this page over the coming weeks - we'll be sharing photos, updates and opportunities to get involved.
The countdown is on! 🎉💛
