Gippsland Tango is a community based Argentine Tango dance studio based 1.5 hours south east of Melbourne. We offer a weekly group class on Wednesday evenings and a monthly Practilonga (practice and social dance) on the 1st Saturday of every month. Visiting Guest Professionals host class lessons for us all, plus private lessons are available by appointment. All are welcome :

We recommend :
* Arriving 15 minutes early to put dance shoes on and warm up
* Wearing loose non-restrictive clothing to allow ease of movement
* Shoes - wearing non-grip shoes allowing ability to glide over the floor
* Bring a drink bottle to keep yourself hydrated

This is what happens when the teacher is away.... The Cats go out to play.
Tango Esencia is a dance studio in Richmond that has a class and then milonga (social dance) on Wednesday evenings. This makes it the perfect opportunity to use our class time to expand our learning and practice.
So much fun.

EL Volcado!

Learning this powerful, dynamic and sometimes rather subtle move takes a lot of precision, focus and communication between the partners.

This move is sometimes called 'the overturn' as the follower goes beyond the threshold of their partner and experiences a sense of falling or being suspended in space. The leader then needs to counter that and help draw them back to a place of balance.

It takes trust, precision and some guts to go for it. But when done right it looks fleeting, flowing and so natural the watcher may wonder 'just what did happen there'!

Tango is beautiful, rich, deep and layered dance.

We dance in Yarragon every Wednesday with one of the Australia's best teachers and dancer.

This is a snippet of our beautiful, fun and social practice milonga from last Friday night.

These evenings will be put on whenever there is a 5th Friday in a month. So the next one will be in July.

Join us if you want to dance, see what tango is like or just enjoy the music and social aspect, you are most welcome.

This is what a social dance, called a milonga, can look like. Very occasionally GT offers their own. This Friday we are having a practice-milonga. This gives participants a chance to practice their dance without the pressure of performance, in a milonga setting.

Learning to follow.

The last video shared showed you the leaders learning their steps and how to offer this sequence. And now here it is, expressed through the follower.
The follower learn, not such to listen to the suggestion, but to imprint her own personality and interpretation of the movement.
It takes two to Tango afterall.
