Little Annabelle has some BIG milestones to celebrate, and we couldn't be happier for her!

She's finished her oral chemotherapy and is getting ready to ring the bell in just a few weeks! 🔔 What an incredible moment, more than two years after her acute lymphoblastic leukaemia diagnosis in July 2024.

And that's not the only milestone she's celebrating.

Annabelle has started her transition to Kindergarten and is loving it! She's even taught herself to swim, learning to float, tread water and dog paddle simply by watching other children.

She's also keeping everyone entertained at home too with her mum telling us: "She continues to sing, dance and give fashion parades to her two Dachshunds, Maverick and Sterling."

We have some encouraging news to share about little Audrey, who you might remember from last year's Great Cycle Challenge.

Now two years old, Audrey is halfway through a new 18-month treatment protocol, and her latest MRI has shown her tumours are shrinking, including those in her spine.

After nine months in hospital, intensive chemotherapy, 17 surgeries and three stem cell transplants, her mum Madeline says their joyful, cheeky little girl is happy, well and thriving.

While there's still a long road ahead, this is the kind of hope every family facing childhood cancer deserves. 💛

As mum Madeline reminds us, more research is urgently needed to give children better treatment options. “More awareness means more funding, more research and better outcomes and our babies deserve better."

This October, thousands of Australians are riding in the Great Cycle Challenge to fund childhood cancer research at CMRI, helping scientists develop better treatments and find cures for kids like Audrey.

After two long years of leukaemia treatment, Great Cycle Challenge ambassador Tyler recently had a very special reason to celebrate: ringing the bell to mark the end of his treatment.

Diagnosed at just seven years old, Tyler spent more than 100 nights in hospital, endured intensive chemotherapy and immunotherapy, and spent five months in a wheelchair. He missed school, footy and so many of the things he loved.

But with incredible determination, Tyler learnt to walk again and returned to doing the things that make him happiest – playing sport, riding his bike and spending time with his brothers.

Today, Tyler is back at school full-time and keeping busy with competitive cricket, Oztag and Little Athletics. He still visits the clinic monthly and will be monitored for the next five years, but in between he’s enjoying caravan adventures with his family and playing with Bella, his energetic German Shepherd puppy.

"Tyler was so strong from day one. He just wanted to be well again. We couldn’t be prouder of him, he is our hero," say his parents, Bianca and Sean.

Siblings. Sometimes, a carer too.

For children growing up with a brother or sister living with a genetic condition, being a sibling can mean so much more than sharing toys, secrets and childhood memories.

It can mean offering a helping hand, providing comfort on difficult days or simply knowing when they need a little extra love.

Not every sibling is a carer, but many provide support in ways that go unseen. And alongside the love, they can also share in the worry, uncertainty and challenges of living with genetic disease.

This National Carers Week, we're making carers visible and shining a light on these incredible brothers and sisters 👧👦

Our researcher at Children's Medical Research Institute celebrates Jamaica Blue's amazing debut for Jeans for Genes this year! ☕

111 cafés serving coffees in special Jeans for Genes cups and selling the most delicious Jeans for Genes cookies to help raise funds for research. And what a result. Together, the Jamaica Blue community raised an incredible $50,000 for research at CMRI.

Look how far Flynn has come!

Almost one year since finishing treatment for brain cancer, Flynn has turned three, relearned to walk and found his voice through other forms of communication.

You might remember Flynn as one of our Great Cycle Challenge ambassadors last year. After brain surgery left him unable to walk or talk, he faced months of chemotherapy, stem cell transplants and proton radiation.

Today, his parents, Claudia and Luke, say their cheeky little boy is back to embracing life with the incredible determination they’ve always known.

“It has been so special watching him find himself again and find joy in all the kid things he missed out on. Flynn embodies true resilience and lives every moment to the fullest!”

This October, Great Cycle Challenge riders will once again pedal to find cures for childhood cancer through the research at Children's Medical Research Institute for kids like Flynn 💛

"What gives us hope is knowing that breakthroughs in childhood cancer treatment don't happen by chance. They happen because researchers, clinicians, supporters and communities come together to give children like Harry the very best chance of survival.” 💛

These are the words of Simone and David, parents of 14-year-old Harry. Bright, curious and kind, Harry loves cricket and has a passion for computers, coding and technology.

In July 2024, after an incredible first semester of high school, Harry suddenly became exhausted. A visit to the GP and a blood test led to the devastating news that he had a rare and complex form of Leukaemia – Burkitt’s Leukaemia with additional ALL markers.

What followed was six months of intensive chemotherapy, two rounds of immunotherapy and 18 months of maintenance chemotherapy. Harry spent almost five months in hospital and faced serious complications, including pneumonia and sepsis.

Cancer interrupted so much of what Harry loved, including school and sport. But earlier this year, after a gradual return, he was finally back at school full-time. And on 14 July, surrounded by his family, friends and oncology team, Harry rang the bell to celebrate being in remission 🔔

Harry is the newest ambassador for the Great Cycle Challenge, which kicks off on 1 October and raises funds for childhood cancer research at Children’s Medical Research Institute.

We’d like you to meet someone very special this Childhood Cancer Awareness Month: three-year-old Isla 💛 Bubbly, outgoing and fiercely determined, Isla loves pink and purple, princesses and music – but is just as happy playing with her brothers’ monster trucks.

One day, Isla was swimming and riding her bike at the park. The next, a tiny rash led to a blood test and the devastating news that she had Leukaemia. Since then, she’s been through 10 months of intensive treatment and now takes chemotherapy every day as part of her maintenance treatment.

Isla’s mum, Gena, knows how important research is for families like theirs: “Kids deserve better treatment options that are safer, better outcomes and research put in to ensure they can live a full life post diagnosis.”

Through it all, her family has been determined not to let cancer take away her childhood – finding fun wherever they can, even making up songs about her medicines.

Isla is the newest ambassador for the Great Cycle Challenge, which kicks off on 1 October and raises funds for childhood cancer research at Children’s Medical Research Institute. Isla, we’re all cheering you on.
