💜 ELLIE UPDATE 💜

This isn’t the update we had hoped to be sharing about our beautiful Ellie.

Up until now, Ellie has been an absolute trooper through everything that has been thrown at her. But over the last few days, we noticed a change. She hasn’t wanted to get up to eat or drink and has barely wanted to move around. When placed in her litter tray, she would often just sit there.

Yesterday was her weekly check-up and bandage/splint change, and unfortunately we discovered another setback.

Her bandage has been rubbing, causing another open wound. More concerningly, even while sedated, her leg is now refusing to straighten.

Another round of X-rays has shown that her hamstring muscle has contracted and is fibrous. The red wavy line in the X-ray shows where her hamstring is sitting.

The surgery itself was a success. Her bones are healing amazingly, and her kneecap is still in place. Unfortunately, it’s now the muscles that aren’t cooperating.

Sadly, there is no simple fix for this.

Ellie continues to hold her left leg up, which means even more pressure is being placed on her already compromised right leg.

At this stage, the plan is to operate on Ellie’s right leg, using a less aggressive approach than we did with her left. We would then allow her time to recover and, once she is strong enough, potentially amputate her left leg.

Dr Colin is going to take the week to think everything through and consider whether there are any other options available to Ellie before we make that decision.

It’s heartbreaking. 💔

We want to make one thing very clear — Ellie absolutely needed her original surgery. Her condition was already affecting her quality of life and beginning to impact her hips. Leaving her as she was wasn’t a long-term option.

Unfortunately, sometimes you can do everything for the right reasons and still not get the outcome you desperately hoped for.

Whatever happens next, every decision will continue to be made with one thing at the centre of it all — Ellie’s quality of life.

For now, she’s home, resting and getting all the love and care she deserves.

Our little girl has already fought so hard. We’ll keep fighting alongside her. 💜🐾

PS. Today she is seemingly back to her usual sweet self, purring and reaching up for more pats and treats! This is a great sign.

Puffball is a sweet, chatty girl with plenty to say! The moment you enter the room, she’ll strike up a conversation and make sure you know she’s there.

She loves a good head boop, enjoys affection and has a gorgeous little personality. Puffball would make a wonderful companion for someone who enjoys a kitty who likes to chat and be part of whatever is going on.

⚡ Meet Sparky ⚡

This little adventurer got his name after being rescued from inside the cabling in someone’s wall! 🧱🐾

Since coming into care, Sparky has shown he’s all heart. This affectionate little man loves attention and will happily give gentle head boops to his feline friends to ask for cuddles and company. 🥹💜

Curious, playful and full of personality, Sparky is now ready to leave his wall-climbing days behind and find a forever home where he can safely continue his adventures. 🏡🐈

🐾 Scrappy’s Day at the Vet 🐾

Our sweet street boy had a pretty big day today. 💜

We already knew Scrappy had one undescended testicle, which meant his neuter was going to be a little more invasive than usual. What we didn’t know was that the poor boy was also suffering from a UTI. 😢

His bladder has now been drained, antibiotics have been given, and hopefully he’ll start feeling much more comfortable and get back on track.

And then there’s that little front leg we’ve been wondering about…

It seems Scrappy’s life on the streets wasn’t an easy one. His leg tells the story of more than one or two fights, with some nasty bites and wounds along the way. The resulting scar tissue has formed around his tendon, making it quite tight.

This explains why you’ll often see Scrappy sitting with his paw held up. Extending the leg while sitting upright just doesn’t sit quite right for him.

The good news is it doesn’t appear to bother him or cause him any real discomfort. Unfortunately, there isn’t a surgery or magic fix that will make it normal again — it’s simply part of Scrappy and the life he lived before coming into care.

For now, we’ll keep an eye on him, get that UTI cleared up and give this beautiful boy all the comfort and love he deserves.

Understandably, Scrappy is a little annoyed with me tonight. 😂
I think I’ve officially been removed from his Christmas card list.

Sorry Scrappy… vet days are part of being loved now. 💜🐾
