A huge thank you to Michael Francis for sharing your road safety message to the students of WA.

Our Year 12 students recently heard from Michael Francis from Paraplegic Benefit Fund Australia, sharing a powerful message about road safety, responsibility, and the impact our choices can have on others.

Michael spoke about the importance of making safe decisions as drivers, reminding students that our actions affect not only ourselves, but also our passengers, pedestrians, and fellow road users.

Sharing his own journey after a life-changing accident in his youth, Michael spoke openly about resilience, recovery, and continuing to pursue his passions — including work, driving, riding, and professional sport.

Students were highly engaged and respectful throughout the session, taking away an important reminder as they prepare for life beyond school.

No one wants to turn the page of the newspaper and read about another road tragedy.

No one wants to turn the pages of a photo album remembering someone lost too soon.

Yet for many of PBF Australia’s lived-experience speakers, these stories are real. Every day they share how one decision, one moment, changed their lives forever.

Before you get behind the wheel, think about the story you want told.

Drive safely. Slow down. Stay focused. Make choices that keep you, and everyone around you, alive.

At just 2 years old, Clare Nott sustained a spinal cord injury as a result of a fatigue-related car crash.

Today, Clare is a valued member of the PBF Australia school road safety team, courageously sharing her story with WA high school students to remind young people that no amount of impressing your mates in a car is worth risking lives.
Her message is simple but powerful - the choices we make on the road have real consequences.

At PBF Australia, our school road safety programs are designed to educate young people before tragedy happens, while our workplace programs help keep workers safe onsite and on the road.

Every conversation, every presentation, and every lived experience shared is part of our mission to reduce the impact and incidence of spinal cord injuries, serious injuries, and fatalities on our roads and beyond.
