🎤 Career Hotseat Nights

We’ve been hosting a series of Career Hotseat evenings, bringing members of our community in to share their unique career journeys with our young people.

These sessions are all about opening minds to the many different pathways available — from school subjects through to future careers.

💬 What makes it even more special?
Our young people take the lead in preparing for and hosting the evening by asking thoughtful questions about:

• Career pathways and experiences
• Study choices and school subjects
• Challenges, highlights, and real-life insights

It’s been fantastic to see their confidence grow while gaining valuable knowledge and inspiration for their future.

Our Jimmy’s Youth Wellbeing Sanctuary crew especially our Thursday Youth Table Group, had the most incredible time experiencing Encore! A breathtaking celebration of musical theatre’s greatest moments.

For some of our young people, this was their first-ever live show, which made the night even more special. From the first note to the final bow, the cast, led by the legendary Caroline O’Connor and supported by Orchestra Victoria, delivered pure magic.

It was also a wonderful chance to be immersed in the culture of Melbourne at night, something many of our young people rarely get to experience and they absolutely loved it.

A huge thank you to Missy and the Jimmy’s Foundation for treating everyone to a delicious dinner at Pepe’s Italian Restaurant before the show. Your generosity helped make the night unforgettable.

And of course, thank you to everyone involved in Encore and for giving our young people an experience they’ll carry with them for a long time.

A young person recently shared what Jimmy’s means to them, and their words capture the heart of why this program exists:

“It’s a place I can go where I don’t have to worry. The people my age and the staff are nice… my anxiety has decreased, and I’ve met new people.”

For many young people, finding a space where they feel safe, welcomed, and understood can be life changing. At Jimmy’s, they’re surrounded by peers who include them, staff who genuinely care, and a community that supports their wellbeing.

This story is a reminder of how important it is for young people to have places where they can simply be themselves, without pressure, without judgement, and without worry.

💜 A parent recently shared how Jimmy’s has changed her son’s life and her words say everything:

“My son found the support he needed to remain in school… He was isolated, struggling with his mental health, and on the cusp of leaving school at 14. The support from Jimmy’s, especially Dylan, showed him there is a place for everyone.”

Today, he attends school every week, knowing the Jimmy’s bus will be there on Wednesdays. He’s found friends who accept him, staff who believe in him, and a male role model he trusts.

Programs like Jimmy’s don’t just support young people, they change life paths. They deserve to be funded, protected, and celebrated.

🌙🦘 Jimmy’s Moonlight Sanctuary Night Tour Thursday 11 June | 4–8pm Ages 15–19

Ready for an adventure after dark? Join us for a Moonlight Sanctuary Night Tour, where you’ll get up close with incredible nocturnal animals, including some of Australia’s most unique and endangered species, while exploring their natural habitat.

Think glowing eyes in the treetops, curious creatures waking up for the night, and the chance to learn about wildlife conservation in a hands‑on, unforgettable way.

This experience is a priority for young people who are new to Jimmy’s and haven’t yet taken part in our programs - the perfect chance to try something fresh, fun and welcoming.

Mental Health First Aid course – Tuesday 16th & Wed 17th June 2026 🌟

At Jimmy’s, we believe everyone deserves to feel supported, understood and safe. That’s why we’re passionate about building communities where people know how to recognise the signs of mental health challenges and respond with confidence and care.

Jeanette Horsley (Manager, JYWS) is an accredited Mental Health First Aid facilitator and offers globally accredited MHFA courses at Jimmy’s and withing workplaces.
The Courses equip participants to:
✔️ Notice when someone is struggling
✔️ Confidently begin conversations and rollout the Mental Health First Aid Action Plan
✔️ Connect them with appropriate help
Our next MHFA course at Jimmy’s Youth Wellbeing Sanctuary is in June, and it’s a great opportunity for community members, workplaces and schools to build stronger, safer environments for young people and adults as well as underpin recent State Government Psychosocial legislation requirements.

🎨 Spotlight on Kylie and her incredible artwork! 🌟

Kylie has been coming to Jimmy’s since 2025, and one of the first things we noticed about her was her amazing creativity. She’s a talented young artist and singer!

With younger siblings at home, Jimmy’s has become her space to unwind, rest and grow. And over time, we’ve watched her confidence bloom just like her artwork.

Before joining us, talking to people and making friends was really challenging for her. But since being part of Jimmy’s, she's:

✨ Found a safe, calm place to be herself
✨ Practised chatting with others and building friendships
✨ Grown her art and singing skills
✨ Even started sharing her talents at school - from saying hello to performing in front of others!

Her artwork tells the story of her growth - bold, expressive and full of heart. We’re so proud of the young artist (and person!) she’s becoming. 💛
