The winter weather might keep us off the water, but it doesn’t mean we stop learning.

I’ve just completed a nationally accredited Mental Health First Aid course through the Seafood Industry Australia and Seafood Industry South Australia Stay Afloat program.

The past two years, particularly with everything that has happened with the algal bloom, have brought challenges and struggles for many of us in the industry, myself included.

This course has given me a better understanding of how to recognise the signs when someone might be struggling, how to start a conversation and what steps to take next — both for others and for ourselves.

I’m glad I’ve taken the time to learn skills that could potentially help someone when they need it most.

Keep learning. Keep looking out for each other!
