Ocean Grove Surf Life Saving Club

Ocean Grove Surf Life Saving Club Ocean Grove SLSC is a not for profit volunteer run organisation that patrols Ocean Grove Main Beach.

Ocean Grove Surf Life Saving Club is situated on the main beach at Ocean Grove, Victoria. The township of Ocean Grove is on the southern side of the Bellarine Peninsular facing Bass Strait, is flanked by the Barwon River to the west, and is a very popular tourist resort with a permanent population of about 10,000. Due to its close proximity to the major cities of Geelong and Melbourne, and the tou

rist mecca of the Great Ocean Road, Ocean Grove's population swells on public holidays and summer. Ocean Grove main beach experiences some of the largest summer crowds of all Victorian beaches and is part of a 10 kilometer stretch of sand from "The Rip" at Point Lonsdale to the Barwon River mouth at Barwon Heads. It is a relatively safe beach due to its gently slopping sand bottom producing an evenly graded surf break. Treacherous waters lay to the east and west of the main beach with the Barwon River mouth having seen numerous boating tragedies in the past. The beach is very popular with families and surfers, although better surf breaks at nearby 13th Beach usually attract the more serious surfers. The Ocean Grove Surf Life Saving Club was formed in 1948 and apart from a brief disbandment in the early 50's, (visit the club's history), has maintained patrols on the beach every summer. The club's large junior ranks provide a strong foundation for its patrol and competition activities as well as giving the club a family orientation with an active social calendar.

We are so very proud of our Honorary Secretary Elizabeth Sampson who was awarded the Public Service Medal on the King’s Birthday Honours list.

Ms Elizabeth Sampson is recognised for her outstanding leadership in public land management reform in Victoria, delivering landmark legislation that protects significant natural landscapes including the Birrarung (Yarra River) and the Great Ocean Road. She played a key role in developing the Yarra River Protection (Wilip-gin Birrarung murron) Act 2017 and the Great Ocean Road and Environs Protection Act 2020, which recognised these landscapes as living, integrated natural entities and established holistic management approaches balancing environmental, cultural, community and economic interests.
A strong advocate for Traditional Owner self-determination, Ms Sampson championed legislative recognition of Traditional Owners’ connection to Country, leading to Victoria’s first Acts with bilingual preambles and long-term governance arrangements. Through her systems-thinking approach, she developed evidence-based frameworks, led complex advisory processes, and managed extensive consultation to build broad support for reform. Her work has created enduring environmental, cultural, social and economic benefits and set new standards for public land management in Victoria.

Although not related to Surf Lifesaving, Libby has given countless hours to the association in many different roles over many years.
A huge congratulations from all of us Libby 💙💛🩵

We are so very proud of our own Director of Training & Assessment Katrina Antony who received the Emergency Services Medal in the 2026 King’s Birthday Honours!!

This honour recognises outstanding service in Australia’s emergency services, from frontline response to leadership, training, and emergency management.

For 20 years, Katrina Antony has devoted herself to lifesaving, giving over 1,700 patrol hours and helping shape training and assessment in Victoria. As LSV Director of Training and Assessment, she has updated systems, made volunteering more accessible, and continues to lead both on patrol and during challenging incidents.

A huge congratulations Katrina on a very well deserved recognition 🎉🎉🎉
