Worldly Bodies EOIs close this Thursday 15 October!

Join John Secombe and Pearl Blackk for a day of storytelling, music, dance and clay making, exploring culture, connection and Disabled experiences as part of Alter State!

D/deaf, Disabled and Neurodivergent peers and allies who also identify as Indigenous, Blak and/or People of Colour are invited to express their interest.

When: Saturday 21 November, 12–4pm
Where: Library at the Dock, Docklands

Auslan interpretation and access support for Blind and low vision participants will be available. Participation in each activity is optional.

Meet the artists joining Asian Futurisms & The Fluid Lens!

We’re excited to introduce the 10 artists selected to take part in this upcoming workshop presented by MAV and ACMI.

Across two days at ACMI this October, participants will work with Indonesian artist and filmmaker Riar Rizaldi, exploring essay filmmaking and nonfiction storytelling through discussion, idea sharing, and guided feedback.

Congratulations and we look forward to welcoming the group and seeing where these conversations take their work!

NEWPRINT 5 EOIs are open.
 
MAV’s professional development program supporting emerging CALD and First Nations event producers, curators and collectives based in Victoria is back for its m fifth iteration.
 
Each selected producer pair receives $7,000 + super in producer fees, a separate $9,500 budget to deliver two live music events, and mentoring, production and marketing support.
 
Apply as a duo, collective, or solo lead with a nominated co-producer or assistant producer.

We recently gathered at Balam Balam Place in Merri-bek to celebrate the conclusion of NEWPRINT 4, sharing a meal, reflecting on the year, and recognising the achievements of an incredible cohort of emerging producers.

Over the past year, this group have developed their skills, built industry connections and strengthened their creative practices through workshops, mentorship, conversation and shared experiences.

A huge thank you to the NEWPRINT 4 cohort: Beryl Mwamb, Kudzai Mupanemunda, Minh “Minhy” Huynh, Urlik Mageza, Carlos Meza, Pranati Narayan Visweswaran and Loli Bobadilla. Your generosity, curiosity and willingness to support one another helped make this year’s program such a meaningful experience.

One of the most rewarding parts of the program was seeing participants learn from, challenge and encourage one another. The conversations, friendships and creative connections that emerged throughout the year became just as important as the formal program itself.

Also a very special thank you to Shop Bao Ngoc for the wonderful catering on the night 💚

We’re excited to follow the journeys of this talented group of producers and see what comes next!

Emerging Filmmakers Workshop and Film Screenings

This October, MAV (Multicultural Arts Victoria) and ACMI present a special program with internationally acclaimed Indonesian artist and filmmaker Riar Rizaldi.

Working across film, sound and installation, Rizaldi’s practice explores the intersections of science, technology, labour, ecology and belief, moving between documentary, fiction and speculative forms.

The program includes Asian Futurisms & The Fluid Lens: Essayistic Filmmaking, a two-day workshop for emerging creatives, alongside a screening program featuring Rizaldi’s acclaimed feature film Monisme and a selection of short works spanning his career.

During the month of May, Isthmic Imaginaries brought together artists, researchers, elders, and communities through an exhibition, workshops, film screenings, and public conversations.

Exploring memory, displacement, language, and cultural continuity, the project created opportunities for exchange across generations, geographies, and ways of knowing.

Thank you to curators Dr Glenda Mejía and Dr Tania Cañas, the participating artists, collaborators, and everyone who joined us throughout the program.

Working closely with our CEO, you'll play a key role in strengthening our organisation through strategic leadership, financial management, governance and operations, while helping create meaningful opportunities for artists and communities.

We're looking for someone with strong leadership experience, operational and financial expertise, and a commitment to equity, inclusion and multicultural arts.
