Our aim is to create positive social change through the capture and preservation of military history in a way that honours our veterans and their families and educates and engages the community. Additionally, we can ensure that Australia's history is authentically preserved. By preserving and promoting Australiaβs history through the lens of those who experienced it first hand, This Story Australi
a helps to tell our national story, and to facilitate connection and engagement with Australians and overseas visitors to that story. This Story is essentially about three things β History, Understanding and Connection.
1. We are about history because without the personal stories or
living memory of the men and women who experienced it, history is
open to being rewritten to suit the agenda of others. We have two
choices; learn from history or repeat it but first we must understand
it.
2. We are about understanding because these stories paint a picture as
to how conflicts can motivate ordinary people to do extraordinary
things while exposing their personal tales of courage, fear,
vulnerability, integrity and compassion β all of which leads to greater
understanding of our nationβs past and a greater understanding of
ourselves.
3. We are about connection, because although we all experience
life through our own unique lens based on personal circumstances
and environment, fundamental emotional experiences such as
anger, fear, happiness, love, pain and sadness can trigger the same
physiological reactions in us all which have the ability to connect
and unite us.
